I have been shooting and reloading for a while now. I feel like I have my bases covered as far as firearms go, except for the fact that I am without a dedicated long range precision rifle.

I've been looking around and the Kimber 8400 Tactical seems to fit the bill. I'm also considering a similar Tikka and Remington .308. I know the Kimber is a little more money, but that isn't a huge concern. In particular, I like the Kimber stock more than the others.

I just moved back to the country, and I have a large yard with enough room to safely shoot 600+ yards. I feel like the .308 is enough round for this, but I haven't ruled out something larger (300WM, 338L). Please share your thoughts. Thanks!

I own a Sako .30-06 (not a Tikka) and love every bit of it. Been shooting the same rifle for over 15 years. I've been doing serious handloading to that rifle for the last 5 or 6 years. With the loads I'm using, that Sako will easily reach out to 300 yards like it is 50.

Crisp and clean trigger break. Like glass. I've been contemplating getting a new MacMillan stock for it, but don't want to ruin a good thing. If you've got the dough to blow, go for it. The Tikka is the same way, just more affordable.

I've heard good things about the Kimber 8400 ATR, too. From what I've read, it is top notch for accuracy and build. It is definitely high on my BAG day wish list.

I haven't shot a Remington action that I like yet, so I couldn't give you an honest opinion. If you're going for distance, have you thought about Weatherby? just a thought.

Thanks for your reply. I have thought about Sako, in particular the TRG, but I'd like to keep this under $1500 or so, that way I can still afford a nice optic (I was thinking Night Force but that's another discussion). Weatherbys are nice, I'll look into them. I definately want a heavy barrel that can hold up to repeated firing.
