What bipods are you guys with the Savage 10FP's(or anyone else for that matter) using and why? Im looking to get one for bench shooting and possibly prone shooting when trying to hit varmints.

Harris bipods are what most use...but WalMart sells a cheap knockoff that is darn near identical to the Harris for 1/2 the $$$.

I have not used one of the WalMart bipods...only looked at them and they appeared decent for the $$$.

EDIT: I remembered after I posted...Harris bipods don't fit the 10 FP's right...do they??? (I don't have any Savages)
I don't know if the other one I mentioned will fit or not.

Harris will fit the Savage swivel stud without an adapter. I prefer the swivel Harris series, can take a shot off uneven ground and not have a canted scope picture. I had one of the Walmart bipods, it worked fine, no swivel though.. :(

I expected to change the trigger on my Savage- the accutrigger as set on the 10FP from the factory isn't too bad.

"Moreover, long range riflery is 10% gun and 90% rifleman."

Amen! Truer words were never written.

Thanks, zammyman

The one in the rear is an LTR, in a different stock, Rifle Basix trigger- it's the go to rifle.

The SSG, is more of a Sunday driver.

The flat bottom on my FP, still fits a bipod, but it will not tighten up as tight as it should, as they are designed for a contoured stock. The Harris is much nicer bipod, worth the extra cash!;)

+1 on the Harris pods, Versa pods are not bad either.

I like the give they have to compensate for left/right cant

JDGray I am thinking of upgrading to the Elite 4200 8-24x50. I see you like yours. Ive been trying to find someone with the 6-24x50. right now Im still slummin with a Bushnell Banner 9-24x40. its works damn good but Im sure the elite will blow it away.

Here is my .30-378 Weatherby Accumark with Leupold VXIII 6.5X20 50mm. The gun is stock as it came off the store shelf. It likes the factory 180 Barnes X bullet load. Don't know if they still make it or not because I reload. I could never get the Barnes X/XBT's to shoot good with my reloads, wish I knew what that 107.5 grains of powder that in there. :banghead: A couple of targets from awhile ago. :)

Here is my 'Long Range' deer rifle. Reminton 700 ADl in 7mm Rem Mag with a 4x12 Busnell. It has been free floated, action bedded, and the factory stock stiffened up with fiberglass. shoots about .50-.75 at 100

Savage 10FP, El Cheapo Center Point 4-16 X 42 scope ($69.95 @ Wally World). Haven't been able to get out and shoot it beyond 100 yards yet, but it basically puts 'em all in the same hole @ 100 yards. Scope has parallax correction focus from 5 yards to infinity.

Was shooting 168 grain Berger moly coated bullets and it wouldn't group worth a hoot. Walt Berger said 168's don't stabilize until almost 200 yards and that I should go to 150 grain bullets or less for 100 yard shooting. Only 150 grain .308 bullets I had on hand were the Hornady FMJ BT's so I made up a few over 47.0 grains of Hodgdon Varget shot that target at 100 yards indoors. It puts them in under an inch even with South Aftrian Surplus 7.62 X 51 NATO.
