I am looking to get a long range rifle, make it look like a sniper gun. I was looking to maybe get a remington 700 and put a thumbhole stock. Is that possible? i want something like the cz 750 but that is way out of my price range.

Long range

Try the Stevens 200 in your favorite caliber. 319.00 Made by Savage mod 110 action. I've got one on the way. . .75" groups with factory ammo. Then you have money for good glass or in my case a Choate sniper stock. Pull up Stevens Model 200 and check it out. Remington SPS is a good one with a ton of after market stuff. Boyd makes nice thumb hole stocks.

Start with a Remington 700 or just buy one in 308 with the composite stock and beavertail forend and be done with it. Like Zak said most police and military are 700's that the action has been reworked with a McMillan or HS Precision stock and some quality optics. Add a Bipod and some quality ammo and you have yourself a "sniper" rifle.

Guess my M700 dont look like a sniper rifle. Sure shoots a ways tho.

After checking the weight of a lot of stocks. I went with a laminated wood that is only a little over 2 pounds. Sure dont make up for the 26 in barrel!

Look into a Savage 10FP (.223 or .308) with a 24-26" barrel. 1/2 - 3/4 MOA accuracy. Optics- 4-16x Tactical with Mildot reticle (hold on to your Visa-pricey). Stock- HS, McMillan or Choate. You're good to go.

Same here usually a lot less. There's a package being offered at Sniper Central (click here) for under $1K to get people like us started off right-hope that helps. Personally, I don't own a sniper rifle - I'm not a sniper. But I have a couple of rifles that I occassionaly shoot long distances with! My best long range rifle is currently A Mossberg ATR 30-06 that is will shoot MOA much like an entry level Rem or Savage. But most serious long range shooters will have $4-$5K in to the rifle scope and spend much more on ammo per year to stay proficient. I can't afford that and don't have that kind of time. But for those who do congrats! I may be joining you someday. Below is a pciture of the Howa Entry Level Package offered at Sniper Central! Very Nice!

CDignition,

What type of stock do you have on that rifle? Is it a McMillan A-4 or A-5?

G'day everyone,.......

If you want a Great long range rifle,......

Parker Hale M82.
I head shoot goats at 1000 mtrs all day with it.
Best if your going to sit in one place all day and shoot from that spot but if your going 'WalkAbout',.......
you might want to think of a Styer SSG 69.
Also good for long range shooting but with the Styer you can carry it all day, synthetic stock, parkerised finnish.

The Parker comes with a wood stock and also parkerised finnish.

Will have to post pictures later.

Aussie.
