Congrats on the 527 Varmint.

My son picked out the 527 American back in February and we've been working up some loads. I have pillar bedded the stock to improve the accuracy a bit. Last time out we did manage a couple of 1/2" five shot groups at 100yds using 52gr SMK on 26gr N135.
Your Varmint should do even better.
Have fun.

thanks tjj and kis2

the scope is just a Leapers Accushot 4x16x56. It came with the gun. I will probably see how it performs but plan on putting some better glass on it when I have the opportunity to do so... that is of course unless it GREATLY impresses me on my range trip this weekend.

at this point that is pretty much the plan.. just gonna start with uniform weights and work my way up... determine the weight it seems to like best, then work with brands and specific loads...i imagine it will be a real tack driver if I find its "bread and butter" round...

Very nice gun!!!I've been looking for a good varmint rifle myself. What can I expect to pay for an awesome rifle like that?

I was fortunate enough to find a good deal on it at 750 used exactly as the pictures show... I suppose you could expect to pay a bit more for the same gun.... there are other good varmints out there though.. really depends on your taste and budget....

I plan on shooting her today... this gun has a 1:9 twist which I have read and heard will shoot anything from a 55 to 64 grain bullet with good performance... but, I must inquire as to with which specific bullet weight others with a 1:9 twist have had the best results.

I am sure there are those here that could tell me what brand, powder, brass, and bullet weight as well as composition to use... so SURELY someone has tried and discovered the best bullet weight for that twist rate.. I plan on trying several as I know guns like what they like.... but any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the same C-Z 527V but with the laminate stock and she loves Ultramax brand ammo loaded with 55gr Balistic tips. Will put 5 rounds under 1/2'' @ 100yrds with a good sandbagged rest if i do my part.
Have you adjusted the trigger yet? It takes some playing with, but once it's adjusted (i took my poundage screw all the way out and had to mess with the travel and over-travel screws a good deal) it will rival any drop in out there in my opinion.

:uhoh:well.. she had me worried there for a bit... was stacking them on top of each other at 50 yards and spraying them at 10 inches or more at 100....so I was discouraged... but after fixing an issue the previous owner had overzealously caused (far overtightened the action screws) and using some foaming bore cleaner to remove some copper fouling as well as throwing a bushnell 4200 on her I am now shooting under an inch at 100 yards with PMC ammo.

WHEW
I feel better...;)

WHEW is right. Like many rifles traded in before their time (because they don't shoot like they use to) all it needed was a cleaning!

I was WORRIED..... but the cleaning and issue with the (stock to action screws) fixed it right up... I was amazed how much of a drastic improvement that gave... I was about a hop skip and a jump away from checking the "lost cause" box on this one...

DEFINITELY NOT NOW... I have no doubt I can get down to 1/2 inch or better if I do my part and make a step up from the PMC ammo.

Start using some hand loads and you will see a whole new level of accuracy.

My son learned that today. We took his CZ American in .223 out for the first time in over a month. He has been too lazy to make up some more hand loads so all we had was some Rem 55gr FMJ rounds to use. We setup at the 200 yd range because I had some testing to do on my LR308. He shot about three groups and was all pooch lipped because they were all over the place. Probably 4-5".:cuss: I told him to not expect much with plain factory rounds. Didn't think they were going to be that bad.:scrutiny:

I bet he'll have some custom loads on our next outing.:D

I know what you mean... that is why I was so happy and impressed with what I was able to get out of some run of the mill PMC. I mean.. 3/4 inch groups from that is not something I will complain about.. I hope to get into reloading when components come available.... may be a while... til then, I plan to just try a few more higher quality rounds to see just how small i can widdle the groups until I can start reloading... I expect to get to 1/2 inch soon enough hopefully beyond that. Of course... I need to improve my shooting as well... I no longer doubt the gun is capable enough.

BTW... this is by no means bragging on a 0.80 inch group... I am simply stoked to have gotten sub-MOA officially. I know the gun is capable of much better...
