After looking around, visiting gun shops and handling weapons I have come up stumped. I arrived at this quandary when I decided that I wanted to carry, mainly because I have some concerns about my work environment and the people who come through, but also the general state of things.

Initially I was looking for something for pocket carry (most threads start out that way I know) but after deciding on the P3-AT my wife threw a fit about having no manual safety (she knows guns, hunts, etc. but has some concerns about me carrying, but accepts that my heart is in the right place (ie. I'm not a maniac) and we do have small children in the home so the concern was understood despite long conversations on the purpose of DA). The result was that I stepped down in size and got a Baretta Tomcat in .32. (About the same size, as the P3-At, heavier, but DA with a manual safety). I love it. I like how it shoots, I like how feels in my hand (fits like a glove).

But when I began to carry it in my pocket it was really two heavy. My back began to hurt, and I wear slacks all day or suits pants and I felt like the gun flung all around. I have since switched to an ankle carry. I carry IWB outside the office but it is not practical at the office though, I have looked at the CovertCarrier but was concerned about having an exposed trigger floating around in my pants.

So to my question. When I made the decision to step down to a .32 it was with full knowledge that I was giving up stopping power for convenience, having the weapon in my pocket. Now that I am not carrying it in my pocket I can't help but feel that its to much holster for a .32. So I have been looking to up size. However I am still concenred about carrying a SA, and the wifely commandment of a manual safety is ironclad. So what should I be looking at?

In summary something with the stopping power of a 9mm, in DA, with a manual safety, reasonable small to conceal, and preferably aroun 18-20 oz. (which is what my TomCat weighs). Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need a 3rd generation S&W. Something like a 3913. AND a good inside-the-waist holster and belt combo. The 3rg Gen Smiths have a Double Action/Single Action setup with slide mounted safety/decocker. Wonderfully reliable and accurate.

A little heavier than you said at 25 oz, but a good holster and belt will make a world of difference.

I heartily second this motion. Though a little bulkier, I prefer the 6906 with its thirteen shot payload.

i think the Kahr is the way to go as it is both smaller, thinner and lighter than the S&W.

i would have recommended it even without the manual safety, but the new PM9-193 has now included that feature too...just to keep the wife and MA happy
