Hello,
I have been on the prowl for a stainless .22 with a 16" barrel in either bolt action or lever action. It has to have a magazine or preferably a tube. Most all the youth models are single shot. I will be using the open sights, so nice ones are a must (I don't like the stamped bendy rear sight). I'd like to keep it under $300 out the door. This will be a hiking gun.
I just tried out a Marlin XT-22YSR (synthetic and stainless) and love the features, but that fancy kids stock really is made just for kids, the comb is way to high for adult cheek. The absolute perfect bolt rifle is the Marlin XT-22YS1 (wood and stainless), but it is only a single shot.
As far as lever actions, I can seem to find anything that is short. The Marlin 39 is awesome, but the barrel is 24" and the thing weighs 6.5 lbs.!
