Hello - I picked up a used S&W Model 10 this week, and would like to replace it's beat up rubber grips with nicer wood ones before taking it to the range.

Does anyone have experience with Altamont grips? I like the look of their grips (and their prices) -but would love to hear any first hand comments. For that matter, if you've got another grip maker you like for K-frames, lemme know!

I'm looking for full size (not concealement) wooden grips with finger grooves - and trying to stay south of $70.

I bought a police trade-in Model 10 and put some factory wood grips on it.

I just did an online order through Smith & Wesson's site.

Factory grips and a Tyler T-grip look good on those S&Ws, and cost all of 50 bucks total.

Yep, they're good. But, i like Badger better. They just fit my hand better and Jim Badger is a great guy to work with. Knows his stuff and will include some custom touches if you want at a marginal increase. Price point is lower and super fast response. Never more than 4 day delivery from him on any grip ordered. Everythin from old ruger six to a K frame to a colt DS. Happy with every one.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Glad to hear that Altamont has a good rep - and I'll check into Badgers, Ahrends and T-grips.

I bought the Altamont grips for my Python and Mark III; outstanding quality and fit at a very reasonable price. Customer service from the company was very good. Here is a picture I posted late last year on this forum:

I tried the Hogue rubber grips for my S&W 19-3 but they are a little small for my large hands. I may be buying the Altamont grips for them as well.:)

I have had the same experience with Altamont. They make the wood grips for S&W.

I use Ahrends for my revolvers. This coming from another grip maker.

K Frame...Altamonts...? Yes. These are service grips, excellent fit and quality. They have round, square and conversion.
If you don't see what you want on their web site, give them a call. They have other grips that may not be pictured on their site.

Altamont is very good - so much so that a lot of major gun manufacturers get their stocks for special issues from them. In particular, the checkering is outstanding. You can also get ivory inlays, etc.

Great photos guys - and thanks for all the feedback on Altamont (and others). I'll be giving Altamont a try (if I can ever decide which kind to get) - I'll put some photos up when they come in.

Altamont makes good stuff, I have several pairs. Although I find the Herrett's Roper design to be more comfortable on a DA.

+1 on Roper's. When made to order for your hand it doesn't get any better though none are inexpensive. The factory smooth targets for the K-frame are pretty nice too. Also, the Herrett's target K-frame's sold by CDNN for $40 are very good. The first photo are Roper's by Keith Brown exactly how Roper made them. Below that are the $40 Herrett's in cocobolo on an N-Frame which just happen to fit my hand very well. I just wish they were walnut. And I will not do finger grips, particular on a gun I will shoot double action.
