Hoping for some suggestions.

While I'm not enamored with the Leek, I have a few. It's my edc inspite of what I'm not thrilled about them.

I upgraded the clips and like it even better.

It would about perfect for me if it had a lock that could be operated with gloves and the blade would be a spear, real tanto, or even a drop point.

So.....
I'm looking for an assisted flipper

*the size of the leek which is good for my hand and pocket size. 3" and slim. I can't go much at all over 3" as I have trouble reaching the flipper easily

* tanto, spear or maybe drop point - not serrated not recurve

* with a button or axis style lock or even open to other one handed & glove friendly locks.

If the leek had a more glove friendly lock I probably wouldn't be asking.

Any suggestions?

My wife just bought me the Benchmade Boost . You can use the thumb set screw for assisted flipping, or use the release blade doo-hickey and just flip it open. Benchmade has others knives that seem to check your boxes.

The Leek is hard to beat. I like frame/liner locks, but not the best choice for use with gloves.

Yeah... it's really nothing special but it's hard to beat at the same time.

I dont wear gloves often and when I do, the carry attributes I want don't need to be the same as an edc.

So maybe I need to rethink this to

* a dedicated gloves knife... which I guess could include a fixed blade. I need to give that some more though

* a Leek but with a different blade shape like a spear, real tanto, or maybe drop point.

Good that you've realized a slim knife doesn't go well with gloves.

You haven't set an upper price limit so we're assuming you want to stay in the same price range instead of getting a Sebenza Tanto.

Take a look at the M16 CRKTs if you want slim and different blade shapes.

I'm glad you mentioned that one.

Do you know how much taller the tanto is compared to the spear point?

I got to handle the 3.6" spear version. It's kind of chunky but not in a bad way. It seemed like it needed some break in time but overall I liked it.

The 3.6" spear was just a little long for my short finger reaching the flipper so....

I was considering the 3.1" tanto version... it looks quite a bit taller than the spear point.... but idk.

Do you happen to know?
I can't find a side by side pic of both or measurements... and crkt hasn't replied

For me, the Kershaw Dividend is next in line to the Leek. It's blade is still technically a Wharncliffe, but is very spear point-like, IMO. It's a little larger, but the aluminum scaled version is still quite thin, however, the liner lock is a definite no-go for gloved use. In case it didn't come throigh, I strongly favor a one-handed assisted-opening knife like the flipper.

Do you know
Gotta fit your hand. I have smallish hands (great for reaching into things, but not always reaching things) and I have no problem with the flipper on an M16. I knew Kit Carson and was up at his shop occasionally and I never found anything he built or designed that didn't fit a wide range of hand sizes.

Med gloves fit my hand but the fingers are most always too long... I have shorter fingers. DA gun triggers are too far a reach for me for ex.

How do you rate the assisted M16 line as far as construction, the dead bolt lock, value?

Personally I like the original M16s as a budget friendly blade. I carried one for years as just kind of 'do a lot of things ok for not much money' knife. And so easy to carry too

I've come to favor the same.... and if not a flipper 2nd would be 1 hand non assisted with thumb hole

I'll take a look at the Dividend

I have been carrying the leek for years. Personally I never use the lock. The clip I remove and re bend on occasion for a tight fit. I want to get a better blade steel wise for hunting. I use my leeks for everything. I really don't want to carry an expensive everyday knife. I might lose it unfortunately and I would be screaming. Leeks are easy to replace

Not really being much of a knife guy myself I was wondering what a food item was doing in a knife forum........ Aside from cut-ability that is........

Not sure how much you want to spend, the Spyderco Smock runs about $200.

There's plenty aftermarket scales and parts to customize it. Traded mine to a friend, had traders remorse and bought another.

Original after trading and basic from the factory.

I have carried Leeks for a long time ... and like the slim flat profile ... But after getting and using a Kershaw Fatback ... I'm in Love with this baby . I like the blade profile , #1935 - call a drop point but is more spear the adequate grip / handle material , 4 position pocket clip , liner lock , speed-safe operation ... and the price... $30 .... You can't buy a better knife ... I'm going to buy a 2nd as a back-up ...
Mine is a drop point . If you want a Tanto ... see Kershaw Kuro Tanto, similar construction , cost $28 .

Glove friendly locks may require out the box thinking ... but where there is a will ... there is a way !

This is a discontinued Benchmade. They were designed to be used with gloved hands with military flight crews in mind. The wide blade has bead blasted squares on the top as well as a thumb hole for easy opening. I picked up one heavily discounted a while back. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would and sold it. But if you can find one on E-bay or somewhere it might be what you're looking for.

The discontinued Freek might also be had at a good price. They have a large handle with a soft grippy rubber inserts that make them easy to hold with gloves. Not sure what one of these will sell for now.
