Looking for VERY economical revolver holster, for very occasional woods carry....

Hi guys, I don't even really need this, and I really don't plan to spend much money, but I have a 4" Ruger GP100 stainless that I'd like to be able to belt carry for the occasional woods walk. I am NEVER going to be toting this around town for self defense, and even walking in the woods with it would be fairly rare (so no matter how nice they surely are, I'm not spending a big wad for that uber-sweet, hand-made leather pancake holster I know some of you are dying to point me towards .)
I'm been looking at a Blackhawk Sportster nylon #2 holster, that can be found as low as $12 delivered, and looks like it would just fine for the occasional use I have in mind. (I have a buddy that used to haul around a 6" 586 in something similar, and he was fine with it).
But, reviews are fairly scarce, and I don"t want to buy it it if it's outright junk.
Can anyone comment on this, and any other budget holsters for this revolver, and my intented use?

There's nothing wrong with the cheap nylon Blackhawk holsters from Wal-Mart. I think you'll find it more than satisfactory for carrying your GP100.

I've had some of those and frankly won't buy again. I've bought so many good quality leather holsters for that same price or slightly higher that it's just not worth it.
Do what you have to and get the gun on your belt but I'd keep an eye out for good ones at yard sales, pawn shops, gun stores, craigs list and gun shows. There are always boxes of holsters for sale and most will at least entertain offers.
An alternative that IMO carry a gun much better than the one size fits many nylon holsters is the Blackhawk or Fobus hard plastic models.

Thanks,fellers. As I kinda suspected I might, I had a low-end nylon holster stashed in a box of stuff that fits the GP just fine, so it should suffice ok should I want to strap it on to stroll through the woods here.
But, that Accu-mold sounds interesting, I'm gonna take a closer look at them

I would have suggested an Uncle Mikes as a decent cheapo, very similar to (If not the same as) the Blackhawk at walmart. And yes, those guns seem to fit just about any holster so no suprise that you have one to suffice for occasional carry.

Do a search on ebay for " GP100 holster"...
I always find nice used holsters there.

You could find a high quality used holster for cheap if you look in gun forum classifieds, eBay, Gunbroker, etc. For the same price as the nylon stuff from Walmart, one may find a nice old piece of leather that'll last longer and sell for what you paid for it if you ever decide not to keep it. That's just how I tend to do it.

Actually, i have taken a look around for a deal on a decent,used leather holster, but they all seemed to already have lots of interest, and aren't nearly as cheap as a nylon Blackhawk or Uncle Mikes.

They had nylon or leather for less than a ten-spot.

For an occasional walk in the woods,,,
Any of them would be sufficient.

A cheap nylon Uncle Mike holster will work...
But, I just got a like new Safariland basketweave thumb break paddle holster for my Model 15 K-frame for $20 shipped...on ebay. There are deals there, and a good revolver deserves a good holster.

I have gotten a lot of use out of my old Uncle Mike's nylon holsters over many hikes through the woods and along for the ride on many a hunting trip. They are still in fine condition and were a very inexpensive way for me to have a holster for just about every gun that I have.

Nothing wrong with cheap holsters for occasional belt carry. Just gotta make sure it protects the trigger and most of the gun, especially in the woods. For less expensive nylon holsters, I usually take a needle and thread to reinforce the stress areas, esp. belt loop.

Hunter and Triple K make "good value for the money" leather holsters for your described usage.

Hunger holsters used to cost a lot but no longer. You can get a good all leather holster with a strap from Hunter for a very good price now, especially at gun shows.
