Looking to develop a non toxic gun oil.

Obviously I'm using the word chemical in the colloquial sense, as in an unnatural, lab produced substance. And while I don't necessarily condone smoking, at least habitually, it's relatively harmless compared to most of the crap most people eat.

I see what you are doing here and I encourage you to bring your idea of an "all-natural" gun lube to fruition. I am sure there are people who will buy it and you may make lots of money. Good luck.

Smoking is way worse for you than eating any food that you could find in a normal, American supermarket. You are wrong. Smoking WILL give you cancer it you do it long enough. The best thing that one can do for one's health is to quit smoking.

With regard to all these "studies" that you reference about everything being bad, toxic, and cancer causing: Always consider the source of the information. It has been my experience that when somebody tells you that something is bad for you, they are usually trying to sell you something else.

"Traditional gun lube is filled with toxic, cancer causing ingredients that I cannot pronounce and, as studies have shown, your body has no idea what to do with them. Instead, buy my all-natural, organic, eco-friendly holistic lube! Your guns, and your body, will thank you.", for example.

Good luck. You'll probably make millions on the backs of gullible, uniformed consumers. And I can respect that.

If I recall the long thread correctly, the OP has already rejected edible mineral oil, has said he will not sell his lube and will not even publish the formulation. Yet he wants us to do his research. Phooey.

Seriously? I simply don't want to step on any patents or provide someone with dangerous information. And I never asked anyone to do any research, but simply to give me a heads up if they know of anything off the top of their heads that can help me. There are a lot of engineer types in the shooting community, so it was worth a try. For your information, I'm also looking for help on engineering forums.

I might have been concerned at one point about toxicity, but personally after I bought a box of gloves for cleaning, I have a lot less concern for such a product. As others have said, even if your gun oil is non toxic the crap your cleaning off is, so you would be wise to wear gloves, have ventilation regardless. However there is apparently a market, and I could see the appeal for using it as a rust preventative on something like a carry piece where it might be contacting your skin for long periods of time or something. Good luck, it's always good to have more choice especially if you are going for price reduction.

grampajack, if you do find the solution you are looking for don't keep it to yourself.

Do some research, do some testing and if it performs good and you are satisfied with it post it up.

Treat it as a gift to the gun community. If we at home can create a safe and effective lubrication product from common items that does not cost an arm and a leg it be awesome.

Don't worry about stepping on the toes of Frog Lube, FireClean, M-Pro 7, Gunzilla and Ballistol. Plenty of folks will continue to purchase those products.

Open source that formula!
