I went shooting with a friend, and after shooting some drills, we closed out with a competition. Rules are simple. 25 rounds, 5 at 5 yards, 10 at 15 yards, and 10 at 25 yards. A hit in the X or 10 ring are worth 10 points, hits in the 9 ring are worth 9, etc. Max of 250. Number of hits in the X ring are the tiebreaker if needed. He shot his M9, and I shot his M&P Shield 45, which I had only put 12 rounds through right before this competition. Needless to say I am very impressed with this little gun. I had previously shot a XDs in 45, absolutely hated it, and figured the Shield would be just like it. I was definitely wrong. Results are below. I won by 2 points

You better hurry up. The S&W rebates end soon. I picked up a no manual safety model for $299. With the $75 rebate I got a 45 acp Shield for $224.

I'm headed to my LGS after work today to see what they have. Hopefully they have a no safety model or can get one in before the rebate is over
That's some good shooting! The shield has very few bad reviews, I think it will serve you well.
The only issue I have with it is that you can't reverse the magazine release (I'm a lefty). But I can make due with that

I ordered a Shield in 45 from Palmetto recently and have been shooting it for a couple of weeks. This is one fantastic little gun and with the rebate it was a no brainer. I purchased the version with the safety, I always have the option of not using it.

I normally wouldn't care if it had a safety or not, but it's hard to work if you're a lefty. I don't want to chance that it somehow works its way on while I'm carrying it

I bought one from palmetto State armory for $299. It's a great shooting pistol, feels great in the hands. However, the aggressive stippling on the grip doesn't feel nice on the lower back. I'm thinking about putting a rubber sleeve at the base of the grip to fix this. Undershirts work too, but just isn't ideal in hot weather.
