Can I as an nyc resident private purchase a shotgun from a private party? Then keep it at a storage place that accepts rifles somewhere upstate and never bring it to nyc since I do not have a permit for a shotgun?

I don't know much about NY laws, but from what I do know, your best bet to actually own any kind of firearm is going to be to move out of NYC, if you really want to be able to exercise your right to own firearms, move out of the state entirely.

There's no such thing as a loophole by the way. Things are either legal or they aren't.

You're right, I wasn't being very helpful. Though 'owning' a firearm that you can't keep at home is kind of, well...

There are good things about NYC too, just not firearm-related.

There are also a lot of folks who live in NYC and keep their guns in their homes.

Follow your local laws and don't try to sidestep them. Loosing your gun rights forever isn't worth the cost, IMO

Well I basically want a shotgun so I can be able to go Target shooting so I can further my experiences..I do want to move from the state but it is not possible right now..but let's say I purchased one and was caught on the nys freeway..even though I am a nyc resident I want to know will I be good to have it in my ny state not the city...........thanks a lot for all the links and info

and would i be able to take it to an upstate range without them keepin it? I spoke to a guy at the firing line in nyack and he said I can buy the shotgun there but can not take it off his premises until I get a nyc permit or my residence changes to a state address......I want to be able to go to the range then take my gun back to a storage facility.

NYC firearms must be registered and approved (a bit fuzzy on the Mann Act). You couldn't go out to Olean, NY meet your friend, give him $350, receive a shotgun, go back to New York City, and keep the gun legally in the city. Besides, I'm not sure if private f2f cash transfers are legal in New York State. I know that's what Mr. Bloomberg blames on crime. Hey, if you've seen an explosion of crimes featuring scoped Mosin-Nagant 91/30's, then sorry, I did a bit of bartering at a gun show and didn't didn't feel like getting an FFL and NICS access.
