Howdy all,
My father is planning on finally buying a SxS after coveting one since boyhood. He is, however, a bit on the frugal side and doesn't want spend too much on it. He is looking for a SxS 12-gauge, 26 or 28" barrels, single trigger.
Right now, the leader in his price range (sub-$800) is the CZ Ringneck. People generally seem to like these and he handled one and was pretty happy with it. The drop wasn't quite right for him, but other than that it seemed pretty good. He also looked at a Stoeger, but wasn't impressed, even at the lower price.
The gun that best fit him (aside from some rather expensive Italian guns in Cabela's gun library) was a Ruger Gold Label. I don't recall if it was the pistol or straight stock version, but that was an almost fit. Unfortunately, at $1700, it's about double his budget.
So, after that lengthy lead-in, my questions are: Should he grab the CZ Ringneck and make the best of it or is is there another shotgun in his price range he should consider? Is there something that is closer in fit to the Ruger for a better price? I'm aware of the shotgun Remington imports, but have been unable to locate one locally to inspect. Is it worth trying to track one of these down?
Thanks!
