I'm considering the purchase of a T/C Scout Pistol in .54 but I know absolutely nothing about this firearm. Can anyone here give me the lowdown in terms of ruggedness, reliability, accuracy and ease of cleaning? Is the brass frame a concern?

I would especially appreciate anyone who could compare this pistol to either a T/C Patriot, a Lyman Plains Pistol or both. Thanks much.

The brass is only in the "grip frame" not a problem. The patriot is more of a target pistol and somewhat delicate compared to the scout which is a better choice for hunting.

The scout has a peculiar one piece nipple breech plug that is remove able with a special wrench for cleaning. If you can pick up a spare (around $30) do so.
Without it the gun is worthless.

Good gun otherwise but lift some weights cause it is heavy

It's a hell of a lot more powerful than either of the two pistols you reference. 435-grain .535" bullets at 1250 fps - that'll leave a mark (and it's not even the max load)!

I wanted one of these for years and ran across one used at a great price a few years back. Liked it so much I bought the matching carbine (that will do 1/4" groups with good saboted bullets at 50 yards).

Downside is the ignition with the # 11 caps is not as good as the more modern in-lines will give with the 209s. Oh well. :) I love the T/C Scouts - simple, strong and wonderful triggers. For cheap (these days)!
