In the early morning hours of January 28, 2009 Lt. Curt Massey of the Culver City (California) Police Department was killed in a fiery crash by a wrong way driver on the I-10 freeway. Curt gave much of his personal time to the department and the community, working with disadvantaged kids and for years, nearly single-handedly, ran the Santa Claus Sleigh that visited the streets in town in the weeks before Christmas giving children the opportunity to give their wish list to Santa. Curt is survived by his wife and three children.

The Culver City Police Officers Assn. is sponsoring a shoot to honor Curt's memory and to help the family. This is a friendly competition that will take place at the Angeles Shooting range in Lake View Terrace, CA. Entry fees includes one raffle ticket. If you're out of the area you can still participate by purchasing raffle tickets or making a donation. Raffle winners need not be present to win. All proceeds go to the family. Just wanted to thank the forum members that have purchased raffle tickets and bump this back to the top.

Remember, winners do not have to be present to win.

The Memorial Shoot is now about three weeks off. I wanted to add some info as to the raffles and the prizes. There are two raffles going on. Prizes total over $16,000 at this time.

For The Blaster Raffle winners need not be present to win. Blaster Raffle tickets can be purchased ON LINE! Prizes are the guns as shown at the shoot website. Blaster Raffle tickets are $10 each and one is included with each registration to shoot the event. THERE WILL BE ONLY 1,000 Blaster Raffle tickets printed! Right now there are EIGHT guns in the Blaster Raffle! (We're trying to get more). As of this moment, each ticket stands an 8% chance of winning a gun!

Guns to be raffled off include:

• A J&J Armory AR–15 type rifle
• A S&W Model 629 Light Hunter revolver in .44 mag
• A S&W M&P40 semi–auto pistol
• A Benelli Supernova, Comfortech 12ga shotgun
• A Glock 9mm or .40 handgun
• Two Ruger LCP's in .380 (two separate prizes)
• A S&W Model 642 revolver w/ Safariland holster

For the second raffle, The Event Raffle, winners must be present to win. Tickets can only be purchased at the event. At last notice there were 96 prizes for this raffle. Since the shoot will last for six hours, that's a prize being awarded about EVERY FOUR MINUTES! Prizes include:

• Bates Boots
• Jackets from Spiewak
• Flashlights from Streamlight, Pelican, Maglite and Surefire
• Knives from Emerson
• Glasses from Oakley,
• A Traser watch
• Gloves from Damascus
• Packs from S.O. Tech
• A Leatherman Wave Multitool
• A set (two) of Winchester bar stools
• Rifles cases from Pelican
• Bags from Maxpedition, 5.11 and Tactical Assault Gear
• Computer cases from Pelican
• A Pepperball Personal Defense System
• An Uncle Mike's rifle case
• A Glock range bag by Proforce
• A signed copy of the book Under Force by William Queen

Hope to see you there.

Two major prizes have been added. One is an H & K handgun and the other is a check for $500. That makes for 11 prizes and a maximum of only 1.000 tickets will be sold.

The shoot is less than a week off and tickets for the Blaster Raffle, the major prizes, can be purchased on line at the website.

We had an excellent turnout, about 260 shooters. The event was taken on by two members of the Department, Officer Chris Horii and Reserve Officer Ted Yant. Over $18,000 was raised for the family.

Right now only the top three shooters in each category are listed on the site, www.masseyshoot.org but as soon as Chris and Ted catch up with their neglected families all the shooters will be listed.

There were at least three photogs covering the event. Photos will be posted on the site soon.
