Lucky Gunner Video on 32 Revolvers

Lucky Gunner does a great job with its informational stuff! I'm a little surprised by the 639fps in .32 Long; that seems a bit wimpy to me. I get about 800fps with my wadcutter loads, and the Fiocchi wadcutters feel about the same although I haven't chronographed them to make sure.

If I had a snubnose .32 Long, like a S&W 30 or 31, I'd probably carry it sometimes. Mine are all 4" or 4.25" barrels, which I might be able to get away with IWB, I guess. I agree with the presenter's view that .32 is fun to shoot. I'd much rather do a couple hundred rounds of .32 Long than .357 or even .38 out of my 640 or Kimber K6.

If you are a reloader the 32 S&W long with 100gr wadcutters takes around 1.7gr of bullseye and is very accurate and soft shooting. Plus a pound of bullseye makes 4000+ rounds.

I do like his videos even if I don't always agree with all his points, they are well done. If I was going old school I would rather have a S&W Terrier in 38 S&W. Even better I would love to have Terrier's size short I-frame but made with modern steels and chambered in 9x19mm.

I am a fan of the 32 caliber guns. I have 3 S&W 32 longs with 2, 3 and 4" barrels. All are newer guns made in the 1970s or there abouts and I load hotter for them than I would for some old turn of the century guns and it's safe to do so. A 94gr lead bullet from the 2" barrel is getting 850fps. I haven't checked the longer barrels.

I have two Ruger Single Six guns with 5.5" barrels and a S&W model 431PD snub in 32 mag. And also a S&W model 631 with 4" barrel and adjustable sights. Using a max load of Hodgdon L'il Gun I get 1305fps from the long barreled Rugers with an 85gr Hornady bullet and 1250fps from the 4" barreled SP-101 I used to own.

I haven't really wanted the 327 but if I did get one it would be the 7.5" barreled Ruger single action so I could take advantage of the higher velocity it offers. Here is an older but good read from GunBlast. The last paragraph is the best part of the write up.

I have the Dan Wesson,, (early) multiple barrel ‘kit’, in 32 H&R, and it is the most accurate, easy shooting and reliable gun I own,, and it is darn good looking too....fine quality.

For every day carry, wife and I are now using Charter Arms in 32 H&R, (I now expect all you experts to jump in on Charter Arms,,, oh well)....we both shoot better than friends with their Glocks, etc.

And grand daughter, I’ve fitted up with a Charter Arms 32 H&R,,,, you don’t want to get in her way...She is deadly accurate,,,

This has got me all jazzed about my LCR 327 again. I wish someone made a night sight or fiber optic sight for it. The 32s are just cool. I really wish they would take off in popularity and we would see ammo and gun options increase. Some lightweight 7 or 8 shot 327FM or 32 Magnums would be most welcome... could they get 10 in an N frame? Surely 9 would fit. That would be a pretty neat gun as well.

I certainly like my .32s! I don't have a .327, but:

(counter-clockwise)

-.32 H&R SP101

-.32 S&W Iver-Johnson Safety Automatic 2nd model, rebuilt, refinished, converted to smokeless

-.32 S&W Iver-Johnson Safety Hammerless 3rd model

-Colt Police Positive .32 Long.

-.32 S&W H&R Auto Ejector Large Frame (6 shot), rebuilt & refinished

The Police Positive I just got, won it for $211 on GB. She's a beaut! My photography skills suck, but:

These days, one of the 32 caliber revolver rounds shines if you are a reloader. As Luckgunner said, factory choices are slim.

When I got my S&W Model 30, I was surprised how tight a group I could get with it with 32 Wadcutters.

It is too bad the shooting public has passed off the 32 caliber as they would make a nice centerfire alternative to 22 rimfire.

I look at the 327 and the rest of the 32 family as the nerd round for revolver users. It looks amazing on paper but the only guys that get behind it or even know about it are the guys that are hobbyists that really enjoy comparing the finer details. Most of the shooters I know that will even consider a revolver just default to 357 or maybe 44 if they are trying to act extra manly. This is really a larger trend where many shooters won't look outside of 9, 45, 308, 223, and just now I'm seeing guys get some interest in 6.5cm. What a boring world to be so limited. The versatility of the 32 cal rounds is what really appeals to me. I can load and shoot down to 22lr for small game, plinking, and introducing new shooters and if I'm reading the charts on Buffalo Bore's site right the 130gr 327 qualifies for deer hunting in my state out of a rifle.

No aftermarket LCR sights are compatible with the 327, unfortunately. They won’t hit to POA. Per Ruger they will be off by as much as 5 inches at 15 yards (or maybe it is 25 yards).
Yeah I was doing a search last night for sights for you and realized the same thing. I just assumed for some reason they would have a FO sight for the 327 and was planning on getting one for my LCR. Who would you like to offer one? A few emails asking about any plans to make a 327 sight might prompt them to look into releasing one. We need to let compaicom know if we want more support of the 327.

I’ve checked with Dawson before. I may have emailed the folks that make the big dot but can’t remember for sure.

If I were looking for a snubby revolver for SD (I'm not) I would definitely check out the Ruger LCR in 327 and load it with H&R mags or even 32 long WCs. About 10 ounces lighter than the snubby SP101 in 357 and offers an extra round. (Cabelas is having a sale on the 327 LCR at the moment.)

I have a Single-Six in 32 H&R. It is a delight to shoot and far more accurate than I am. It does well with any ammo but it shines with 32 long 100 grain WCs. If you reload, that single-action gives you a pleasant all day target session for little cost. (As a bonus, 32 caliber muzzleloaders give a similar satisfaction: comfortable, accurate and inexpensive. A light target load gets you 700 shots from a pound of 3F powder. That's a LOT of shooting.)

Yeah, I've become a fan of 32 caliber.

Variety is the Spice of Life, this is true.

On the other hand given that revolvers are subservient to auto-loaders in the current handgun world it is somewhat of a mystery to me why there is so much recent chatter regarding 32 caliber revolvers, .327 in particular.

I read some of the popular press churned out by the firearms industry. By chance encounter I discovered the source of the enthusiasm of late. It is amazing the power of the printed word. Not to imply that there are no long time fans of these revolvers, I'm sure there are many.

You are so right, "The Power of the Media". No telling what will be their next big kick.

The same goes with the LCR9mm. No compatible night sights. Big Dot sells one, but it is off just like the others. I have emailed them etc. Nada.

I was noticing this too but wasn't sure if there was an actual uptick or if I'm just noticing more since I now have a 327.

SteadD, didn't you buy the Kimber K6? If so, how is it performing?
I bought one K6s about 1.5 years ago. It has been excellent in every regard with somewhere around 800-850 rounds through it. I bought one several months back that has been problematic. Kimber says it is in spec but it won’t fully extract cases reliably. I took out 3 snub nose 38s and shot the same ammo through each. Slapping the ejector rod would clear the cases on all the guns but the newest Kimber. Not sure what to make of it.
