Its ALMOST as white as the normal sights were but at night they glow pretty freakin well!...My sig got a normal ammount of light as i was applying the stuff, then it went into my safe, pulled it back out this morning and the sights are still glowing. I think if my gun sits in the safe for more than 2 days or so, it will go dead, but once it catches some light its re-charged.

The glow of this stuff is just amazing... scary almost, it looks like there has to be a power source. Awesome stuff. Going to start doing all my firearms today :D

Does the product contain Tritium?

If so, be careful you don't inhale/ingest/absorb any of it. It emits a bit of beta radiation that targets your organs, and has been linked to cancer.

It's not a very strong emitter, but better to be safe than sorry down the road.:)

Also, how much is a vial? It looks like it works great.

Just how is Lumatec different, or better, than hoby shop glo-in-the-dark paint?
Mauserguy

Its a lot brighter than anything else ive come across... and lasting a very long time..

THis could be something? this could be nothing?.... I was just experimenting before dropping 100+ per set of night sights on my firearms.

On the packaging it says Non Toxic and Safe for handling. So im assuming its not anything super high end crazy.

That little vial is 40bux. I could probably do 20-30 handgun sights with that vial.

I have some pretty high end stuff called West Systems that dries SUPER clear... but im experimenting with Clear nail polish and Automotive quality Clear Coat right now. I'll post results.

Wow, that's really neato. I recently procured a used CZ in which the glo-in-the-dark paint had come out of the sights. I got a bottle of paint from a hobby shop and it works pretty well, but not as well as the factory paint on a new gun, and not as well as your stuff. I'll have to look into getting some of that Luma-tec. Post more of your experiments, I would like to see how it works out.

Funny you mentioned the CZ... I recently did the SAME thing... got a CZ75b and when the guy said "Glow in the dark" sights i was scratching my head because it did not look like night sights... when i picked it up i saw how it worked... just like a watch... so this is kinda how i got the idea (not saying it was my idea, just had the urge to do it myself)

That's awesome.

Where would one go about procuring said powder?

Also, is there anyway you could post a "several hours later" shot? Just so we can all get a visual idea of the fade time.

My Beretta Px4 bedside gun has some great factory Luminova night sights (yeah right, lol:D) but I'm thinking about doing some self modification like this.

Ya know, i'll do a Time Lapse test today for everyone... I'll hit it with regular room light and then let it go dark in a bathroom or something and take a pic 1 shot per hour or something like that... so you can see the fade...

It was faded overnight, but not very much...

I really didn't use much of the powder so im actually mixing MORE in it today to test on other guns.

I bought the Lum-Tec powder on Ebay... the smallest ammount was $40... but i could do 20 guns... but since im testing i could probably do 10-15 because i am developing some waste as i test different process's.

OK, so i did my Glock and M&P... the edges aren't as crisp as i would like on the Glock rear sight yet... when its SOLID dry i'll take a razor blade and give it a nice clean straight edge chop.

SO... Here it is, In a bedroom, Computer monitor on, Laptop On, Window open (bright sunny day, 2pm), and a Lamp on as well.. You can still see the sights are White in color.

Now with the window closed, and shutters pulled so the only real light is the computer screen and Lamp.... You can kinda see the glow coming.

Now light off and curtain drawn.... its not PITCH black in my room, you can actually see the closet door in the lower right corner... but the sights are glowing pretty well. Computer monitor still on.

Zoomed in, computer monitor's off

That is what I want for the Tok.

I bought some glow paint at Cabellas but if it does not work like your stuff I will redo it. Where did you get your paint?

Now let's see what it looks like after ten minutes in the dark.
Mauserguy

How about an hour later? :) Same camera, same room, same darked out settings.. only change is that i DID have to open a door to get back into my bedroom real quick... so there may of been a flash of minor light.

I truly don't care if this works or not, i have no stake in Lum-Tec... After see'ing the quality of their lume on their watches and the idea of glow in the dark paint on CZ pistols... i figured why not?

So far im very happy with the results and impressed. It is no replacment for night sights BUT it will work well for me because the range i go to shoot at is pretty dim indoors.
