Please move if this is in the incorrect forum. I'm looking to get a rear peep sight for a Winchester M70 (pre-64). Anyone used a Lyman 57 WJS sight on these? With the front factory sights, it seems like the rear sights need to be pretty low and I'm worried that at the lowest height/elevation setting, the elevation screw will cut into the stock.

Are the new aluminum 57 WJS sights (link) also like this picture below of a vintage steel 57 WJS, where the elevation screw protrudes below the block at the lowest height? If so, does this present a problem with Winchester M70's?

Thanks in advance for any insight. I've asked this question in some other forums but haven't gotten clarity

I can't speak to your exact concern, but I was wondering if your rifle currently has a hooded or globe type front sight or if it's just the open type post? I'd be inclined to put a slightly taller front sight on before I'd risk altering or damaging the stock.
