I recently purchased a Savage 1899 in 250-3000. The original ramp sight is missing, but the rifle has a Lyman 2A style sight attached. It shoots to point of aim at 100 yards with Remington factory ammunition, so that's good. However, there is rust in the threads where the elevation adjustment screw is and it is siezed up. I took the sight of and soaked it in Break Free CLP for about 48 hours, to no avail. Any suggestions on getting this apart without damaging it, so I can make it function properly?

If the above does not work, take it off rifle and try it in a sonic case cleaner if you have one. Just an idea! Then if you do, be sure to dry it fast and soak it in some oil right away.

Take it off the rifle, put it in a small glass jar or bottle, cover it with kroil. cover the container and forget about it for a couple of weeks. While you are waiting fix that buggered up attachment screw we can see and any more you find. Then clamp it in a vise using protective jaw covers and apply some heat to it trying to keep it only on the knured nut, a soldering gun might do or one of the minature butane torches, and try to turn the nut using pliers that won't mess up the knurling. If you can get it to move even a tiny bit then apply more kroil and begin working the nut back and forth. If it becomes tight apply more kroil and wait a few minutes. Wipe the kroil off the exterior and then apply more heat and keep moving the nut back and forth. Repeat until it comes off.

doubleh speaks the truth. Kroil and time, and maybe a little heat will do it if it can be done. It has salvaged so many frozen screws/nuts on guns, cars, and machinery left out in the open that I don't bother with other penetrating oils, effective though they may be. It's hard to improve on success in my book, and I speak only from my experiences, but I learned from people who knew whereof they spoke...
