M-14 still on Navy ships?

Stockpiled and Rebuilt M37s is no mystery to me. I had one of those, right now, down and dirty "Familiarization", classes on the 203, about '84, '85. I dont know how many variations there were, this one ,was a sleeved fiberglass, mousetrapy looking afterthought, that looked like it would fly off the rifle, after a few rounds. I would say anyone qualified with the 79 would see it as a step back.

M16A3 originally was an A2 (fixed carry handle) with AUTO instead of "burst".

M79s are still in use...barely...I had about 14 of them in Iraq in 2008. Spare parts were non-existant and I was cannibalizing the worst to keep the rest going.

in 2003 when I decommissioned the USS Rainier, Our watch rifle was the M14. On another note, My cousin in afghanistan states that some units are getting issues re-fitted m14's due to mountain division and others complaining of the punching power at Mountain combat distances and some units are obliging.

well they are calling the M14s back into service, M-79s etc....hope they dont call us old vets back to action...at 57 I am just a worn out old vet, cant be refitted like an old rifle.

I just got back from a contracting job in Kuwait. Down at the KNB the U.S. navy and Coast Guard guys are still using some M-14's. Not many but they are still using them. More M-16's and M-4's than you can count though.

my last seagoing command (SSN out of new London) had just turned in the last of it's m-14s in 2000. never saw one on lower base afterwards either ..I'm not saying they didn't have them .. I just never saw any . I was my commands SAPO (Small arms Petty Officer)

I got out of the Navy a little over a year ago. I never saw anyone but designated marksmen or special forces guys with M14's. They might be out there but I never saw them. MSC (Military Sealift Command) ships still have M14's both for line throwing and their reactionary forces.
