M&P Barrel Damage?? **UPDATED PICTURES**

So I took my new S&W M&P compact 9mm shooting for the first time this weekend, only putting 150 rounds through it. It shot pretty well, but I'm still getting used to the trigger, and shorter sight radius.

So I get home and take the gun apart for cleaning, and notice that muzzle looks a little strange. A closer look reveals what appears to be some small burrs where the rifling meets the muzzle. I'm not sure what would cause this, if its normal, or if it will go away. Kind of irks me since its a brand new gun, but maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about here.

I've attached a photo (I know the quality sucks, I'll take a better one if necessary) see if you can kind of see what I'm talking about.

I can't make out what your are taking about in the pic. But I did take a look at my M&P it also looked a little strange. So pulled out a 5X loupe and checked it out a little closer.

It looks like S&W used a counter bore or bore tool slightly bigger than the bore diameter to finish the inside bore edge to crown transition (rifling meets the muzzle). If that is what you are looking at than I would not worry about it.

How did it shoot for you?

My M&P 9compact, and my M&P 45 full size, both had odd little finishing marks where the grooves and lands met the barrel after I shot them the first time. They went away after a few hundred rounds.
Give them a once over with a brass brush.

it doesn't look like a flaw in the machining/barrel, it looks like fouling...notice how it exits the grooves.

you wouldn't happen to be shooting non-jacketed ammo would you? either that or it is just horribly dirty powder

I think you need to clean it well with a brass brush and patches. Then show us some after-cleaning pics of the end of the barrel. The crusty stuff doesn't look good, but it might just be powder. What kind of rounds were you shooting, and how did the gun shoot?

more rounds down range will probably smooth alot of things out in ur M & P. nice gun by the way.

I shot 100 rounds of BLAZER Brass, and 50 rounds of "Monarch" (Academy Sports Brand) ammunition, both 115gr.

I was going to wait to see what you guys thought before I took a brush to it, so that I will do next.
