Got one, This gun is very impressive. It is slim yet very ergonomic. It feels much better than the LC9 and the kahrs. The triggers is also very very nice. It is improved upon the previous m&p triggers and just as accurate with the shield as i am with my sig P6. I also love the sights. Cost me 425 out the door. great value and i expect they will be popular and hold there value or even go up to the 430 dollar price tag like the xd subcompact. I recommend it over any other conceal carry gun on the market right now

9mm or .40? There were earlier reports that the M&P compact in .40 was rather snappy, so I'm curious how the Shield might compare?

Regardless, can .45ACP be far behind in this platform?

I now have 3 M&P in 9mm and think they are great!

Found one (9mm)at the LGS $410 out the door...liked it, but the grip seemed small...I'd probably look at it (40 S&W) again if the new Springfield XDS doesn't hit the stores soon...

I fondled one today and it seems to be everything it was portrayed to be, thin, light, small, solid. My pinky is half on and half off the grip using the 7 round mag and very comfortable with the 8 round mag.

The store I was at had no holsters for it so I looked online with Galco, Desantis and Mitch Rosen as I prefer leather. Very few choices in leather at the moment.

I'm 50/50 on the safety. It is fairly small and tight. I'm not sure I could disengage the safety rapidly under stress. I see advantages to having a safety and disadvantages.

I think this will force the Austrian Perfectionists to bring a 9mm/40 single stack to the market very soon. It will definately push Springfield to bring their single stack 9mm/40 to market sooner than planned. I'm holding back, I'll have to mull this one over. There may be a lot more players in this market by the end of the year.

Apex Tactical just ran 1000 rounds through their Shield, in 1.5 hours, with their new parts to check function and reliability...not a bobble

Needs night sights IMO, passed on buying one Sat 4/21 because they (Bud's retail shop) wanted MSRP of $449 for it. At that price I will wait, only pistol that is harder to find and priced way too high is the SIG P238. Still plan to get the S&W, just wait for a used one to surface, have to ask my wife if I can borrow my P238 for a trip to the grocery!

I bought mine 4/13/12 am from Cabelas, stopped at my range to test it before I made it home. I was very impressed even with the stock trigger. Leaving the range/club parking lot, I called Doug at ATEi if it was possible for him to look at it and do a trigger job. He had me come into his shop later that afternoon. He installed a ATEi sear, lowered the pull to 4.1 lbs, shortened the over travel .. etc. I let him have my Shield over the weekend and picked it up Monday afternoon. He swapped out the sights with the Trijicon HDs from his full size M&P just to see if they would fit. They do and I ordered a set for myself. The Shield is just awesome. I bought a Galco holster for the Glock26 natural leather yesterday while RCS Raven makes a Phantom style and mag carrier to fit the Shield.

I originally paid $449.00 and when other stores got them in later that week selling for substantially less, I called Cabelas and they refunded me $53.00 including the tax adjustment. I was charged $399.00 + tax, have a year to pay off no interest and a reward of $25 for next purchase (went towards the Galco holster yesterday)

There is some light pretravel on my Shield's trigger, but the reset is better. It feels heavier than my M&P9c and gritty, but I'm hoping it will wear in as nicely as my M&P9c, which has improved a good deal in 1k rounds.

I sent 'em an e-mail earlier (no reply) and just got off the phone with Pearce Grips - asked 'em if they had any plans to release a grip extender for the SHIELD. Gal said I was the first to request it, and she'd pass it on to Mr. Pearce.

The Pearce Grip extender really makes a difference in the comfort/control of my XDSC. Hopefully, Pearce will come out with one for the short mag?

I would imagine we will see one here in the next few months.
If anybody's interested, it might not be a bad idea to shoot 'em an e-mai requesting one? Maybe it'll get 'em on the ball?

I've kinda, sorta got a hankerin' for one. Pretty close in size to my LC9, but the trigger is so much better it's not even funny. The trigger alone makes me want to buy one. Cheapest I've seen one local is $417.

I guess one would have to define "better".
I'd probably give the nod to the LC9 trigger-I see at least one other person (probably in another thread) that owns both also feels the LC9 trigger is better.

Guess it depends on personal taste, but ain't no way I'd classify it as so much better.

In my opinion, the trigger is way better. Since I'm the one that posted it, I figured that much would be obvious.

If you like a long, long pull that breaks like a hole punch through paper and a long, long double-click reset, you'll probably like the LC9 better.

I really hope Smith comes out with a single stack M&P shield in .45 ACP, maybe 5+1 with the flush magazine. I would buy it in a second over the Springfield XDS.
