I think these pistols are both very nice alternatives to glock. I like glocks, but i want to try something with better ergonomics, sight, grips, accuracy etc. :D

What do yall think? Right now im thinkin XDm

I dont wanna mess around with 40 because its too expensive to shoot. I personally will feel more confident with a handgun i shoot regularly than one with a slightly bigger caliber. I have always felt this way. Perhaps when i make the big bucks i will get that extra .02 cal of the 40 :what:

the .40 is more like .05 a 9mm bullet is .355 not .380 basically 1mm difference... side by side they are almost impossible to tell the difference between and even weight is what... at the high end 26gr? I don't care if it is a 9mm or a .45 if you don't hit something squishy and important it doesn't mean a thing.

I would go with the M&P I haven't shot a XDm but I did shoot an XD and didn't like it at all. Not to mention the M&P has great CS, ergonomics, and is American made. The XD line is not. I went with a glock for the simple fact that the parts are everywhere, the ergonomics fit me perfectly, and I got it for over $200 cheaper than the M&P and it is a brand new G19. I couldn't beat the deal and unless you have a significantly different type of market around you don't expect the M&P to be an easy find... G19s and M&Ps are almost non-existent. I found ONE G19 in months and I bought it... the M&P FS is NEVER around.

I also have family in Waco... just figured I would throw that out there.

Chose XDm as I have an XD and love it and I believe that the XDm holds more than the M&P, not saying the M&P is bad as it was a tough choice between the two when I originally bought mine.

they make a .40-9mm conversion barrel if you get the M&P the bore axis on the XD i shot was high and it made some pretty bad snap in the .40... I would honestly go with a M&P 40 or .357SIG and buy a 9mm conversion barrel and mag for it if you can afford that route.

I dont know if i trust S&W yet. I shot their old auto pistol and it was a mushy piece of crap that i could jam on command. I cant do that with my cousins XD or my dads Glock. I would think that the XDm is better than the XD anyway. I like the grip safety on the XDm anyway.

I prefer the M&P. The ergonomics are better (and the backstraps can be changed out to adjust that - I prefer the smallest backstrap myself as I have small hands), and I'm not a fan of the grip safety on the XD line. With drop-in kits from Apex you can also tune the trigger to an amazing degree. The CAEK if you want to remain legal for USPSA Production and/or IDPA SSP, or the FSS kit if you just want to shoot.

I would say try them before you buy either.

M&Ps feel great in the hand, but their trigger suffers. XDs and XDms have a bit more "crisp" trigger feel but the ergos aren't quite as good. The XDm is, however, better than the original.

I had an M&P and sold it b/c I didn't like the trigger. I know I could have dropped another $100+ to get the trigger smoothed out, but I bought a CZ instead and haven't looked back yet.

Ummm..... around here in CT everybody and their uncle is pimping the M&P line, hard. They are all over the shelves (and selling like crazy as far as I can see).

My vote was for the M&P. I have the 4" M&P9, and I love it. I bought it back in '06 when M&P was the new kid on the block. 5 years later, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Of those 2 I like M&P better. I'd also take a look at the FNX. I like Glocks just fine, but feel the FN guns are the best of the next generaton of pistols. I really like the feel, as well as the options to carry cocked and locked, or like a traditional DA/SA pistol with both a 1911 style safety as well as a de-cocker.

I own both.

No contest the S&W M&P.

I liked the XDm9mm. Put one of the trigger kits in it and shot it in my clubs weekly steel matches. Doing well and I like the gun.

Started having jams, no problem, it was time to replace the magazine springs. DUH! none exist. Springfield doesn't have them, and to this day I don't believe they do have them. MecGar makes the magazines but will not sell them, Wolf doesn't make them.

I could buy a magazine rebuild kit, for 18 to 21 dollars per mag. I owned 12. I could not find springs until a year or so ago, from one of the better XD/XDm support houses.

Then a friend of mine had his extractor in one of the XD compact 9mm go south. No problem, we call for the part. Springfield will not send it. He had to send his gun to Springfield.

And as far as I know, I no longer follow the XD/XDm family, they still are having issues with the Striker retainer pin too. I am done.

To me that is examples of a manufacturer/reseller refusing to support their own guns. If I can't get parts in a practical manner it's toast. I gave it to my Son in law.

M&P's I have had 4. Traded the compact which I had placed the Pro shop sear I got in the Pro9 for a full size 45. So now I have a Pro9 which I run in the weekly matches for almost two years now, and love it. A full size 9 and the full size 45acp. All of them have APEX kits. The Pro9 is a competition kit, and the others are carry kits. Great triggers.

No contest. parts are available from S&W, the Pro9, an early one had the striker break. Called and they sent one out, no charge of course. While waiting I had taken the striker out of the compact an put it in the Pro9, and put the new one sent by S&W in the Compact. Zero down time.

I replaced the rear sight on the pro with a Warren Tactical. Love that wide rounded sight with the original front fiber optic in green, which I see a lot better. Love the gun.

My Glocks have never quite fit me right. I have often had problems with Glock magazines going back to the late 80's and as recent as 3 years ago, that a brand new Glock 19, the two included magazines, neither one worked properly. I fixed them after parts were sent from Glock.

I do like the HK P30. I got 3 of them and a P30L all of them with the LEM trigger. I did shorten the slide locks on both sides of all of them. They really run nice now.

If the reset is important to you, don't get the HK. I learned to shoot in an era that reset was not an issue, and to me still isn't. I am a proud trigger slapper.

good luck.

Fred

I picked neither.I would go with a regular XD.It has the same comfortable grip, same reliablility, and same great price that beats both handguns you have listed.

If i had to go with one of the two options above then probably the M&P then the XDm IMHO.
