M1 Garand at a multi gun Match

I have a few. The older WWII vintage is sort of unique as I cambered it in 7mm-08 Remington. That would be the upper one in the below image:

I did the gun around 95 using a 12-94 barrel. I do have a 308 barrel for it and maybe someday... Still have all my Garand tools and fixtures. Haven't shot that one in years. The lower is a Korean era 30-06 rifle with what they called an orange wood (birch) stock. During the early / mid 90s I would have as many as 25 in the shop at any one time. They were selling for $250 back then. I still have a bucket of parts and a pile of take off barrels. Still love those rifles.

I actually think the M1/M14 pattern is one of the better rifles to shoot left handed, but the technological advances with (especially) the AR/m16 platform cannot be ignored.

... neither can what an M2 ball round will do at 400 yards, or 40 feet.

:D

Good runnin' your rifle.

What's w/ the two-hand reload, though?

Got the top round on the wrong side?

Not gonna disagree here...

Thanks!

I'm not really sure, to be honest. I always load clips so that the top round is on the right hand side.

It just wasn't going in like it usually does...

so I applied more "UMPF".

What was it that hit the ground in front of shooter in video at 2:20 mark?
Almost looks like a pulled shot. Jacket separation?

I shoot a Garand left hand. Never thought prone that it was a problem. I do load my clips with top rounds on left side. It allows better leverage inserting the clip. At 600yds, I use a single shot adapter so it’s no problem.
I hook the little finger on the slide hook and push with my thumb if needed.

After replaying the video a few more times, I think it was a piece of bullet bounced back from the plates!

I think I could have been a ricochet but that area has weird wind behavior too.

I agree that the timing is suspicious, however.

It happens. One of the reasons we wear eye pro. Rifle stuff usually doesn’t make it back but handguns and particularly .22, and particularly on loose plates sitting on stands, sends a lot of frag back toward the shooter. I’ve had some draw blood, stick into my skin through my shirt, etc.
