aka, Ian gets his ass handed to him.

We finally had the chance to run a .308 caliber reproduction FG-42 in a 2-Gun match here, head to head with an M1 Garand. The FG was complete with an original-style 4x optic, and it performed flawlessly. My friend shooting it ended up taking 11th place out of 45, and that's even including his use of a P38 and flap holster for the pistol shooting.

Check it out:

Basically what I got from that is that I really need one of each of those rifles and good friends to go shoot them with. Thanks for the vid it was cool.

Great video and thanks for the link to SMG Guns. Definitely interested in a few of their products; in particular their Bren gun.

Thanks Ian.

I'm still waiting patiently for mine to be finished! Scope mount bought and the scope search continjues (looking for an original). Ammo in cans already, and a stash of magazines is here too. I picked out one in 7.92x57 just to be original.

Willie, my preference would be for an 8mm one as well. Having shot both types I can say that there really isn't much practical difference, but I like 8mm for the authenticity.

Yup... I agonized over the choice, with cases of 7.62 ammo in the bunker and just a few old belts of MG-42 ammo as decoration in 7.92. But in the end I wanted it to be as authentic as possible. Thanks for reminding me that the days of waiting are not to be endless...

I really liked the head to head shooting. Best foot forward...load and shoot without any "back up/restart/reshoot going on. You guys really rock!

Thanks for showing. I enjoyed it.

I knew about SSG guns that we for some stupid reason we can't get in this country....and have read a few very mixed reviews on these reproductions...I will be interested in hearing some more real world reviews on them.
