I just received a correct grade M1 from the the CMP and while performing the standard checks I found there was no movement when I pressed up on the op rod. Upon tearing it down I saw that the op rod does not lie parallel the the barrel and contacts the left side of the gas cylinder. I expect this could cause problems and would like to correct it if anyone has a fix. The rifle is otherwise in beautiful condition and doesn't appear to have been used since it was rebuilt. The finish is intact except for a line along the bottom of the barrel near the receiver, there is no corresponding wear on the op rod.

Your best "fix" is to call the CMP.
Rather than attempt some repair that might cause more problems than it might fix, I'd contact the CMP.

They have the best customer service around and will either tell you how to fix it, send you replacement parts, or ask you to return the rifle so one of their armorers can repair it RIGHT.

Op rod adjustments and repairs is NO job for the untrained.
This is how good M1's get ruined.

This was the first time I've delt with the CMP and didn't know they backed up their rifles. Thanks for the advice, I'll contact them Monday.

"...didn't know they backed up their rifles..." Big time customer service. They'll have you send the rifle back or send you another op rod.
