I've been trying to get some bulk ammo for my M1A. But all the companies out there only have .308.

Georgia Arms for example.

What is the recommended grainage for the M1A?

150 or 168?

Any new ammo sources lately?

Anywhere from 147 to 175 is what I've seen folks using. 168's loaded with Sierra Match Kings seem to be the trend for target use.

175gr? Don't you have to have a special throght on the barrel? I read that using anything heavier than 168gr with a rack grade barrel will cause excessive bolt velocity and wear on the op-rod. Maybe I'm wrong.

175 is about as heavy as I would go, but many folks shoot 180 with no problems. I wouldn't run 180 personally, but 175 ought to be ok. Anything over that I would stay away from without an adjustable gas plug, and even then I don't know if I would be able to trust the plug.
