how can you tell if a m1a or m14 flash suppressor or flash hider is nation match? i know they ream out the middle, but i have 4 different falsh hiders and cant tell if they are "national match" or not.
the opening on the end wil be visually larger. make sure it hasn't been reamed to much...if it has, the reaming will have cut into the flash suppressors splines.http://www.tedbrownrifles.com/images/400_FS1.jpg
thanks bfoosh. two of my springfield suppressors appear to be NM. i bought one on gunbroker that said it was NM, but it looks standard to me. does anyone know just how more accurate the NM hiders are? the springfield flash hider i have on my gun now looks reamed but i feel like i still see "nics" inside it like maybe they are bullet strikes.
The NM flash suppressor is not 'more accurate' than an unmodified flash suppressor. The original reason for reaming them was supposedly because rain drops accumulating on the tines could actually deflect the bullet. Since it normally rains like a cow pissing on a flat rock off a 40-foot cliff during the national championships at Camp Perry, OH, this is a valid concern.
A properly modified flash suppressor is actually modified in four separate dimensions, rather than merely having the tines reamed out.
