Magazine Storage

It is definitely important to be organized with your magazines. I am actually hunting around my house looking for a container that has a bunch of 10rd and 5rd AR magazines that I like to use for one of my AR's that's scoped. Can't find the damn thing.
Just buy another and then you'll find them.

OK, for rifle mags/holsters/gun rugs/etc.
I built this "bookcase" shelving that fits into the end of a closet near my safe.
You can see the closet clothes bar at the top in this pic:

I don't really have any rifle mags, but they would fit nicely on those shelves, in totes. :uhoh:
Again, you can see the gun model written on the holsters with a silver sharpie.
jmo,

Have several pieces of old carry-on luggage that weren't so great for air travel but work well for magazine storage. Nice handle and wheels too! Especially if all loaded! Of course depending on volume... I like my mags by the gross...

Mine is really getting out of hand with so many different magazines. How do you store yours? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What do you mean by "storage" and "out of hand"?

First of all, my general rule of thumb with our guns is "enough magazines to load in full box multiples". So for my Colt 1991A1 as an example, that would be 7 magazines. (7 magazines times 7 rounds each is 49 rounds, essentially a full box of ammo.) For our M&P-15's, the minimum would be two 30 round magazines, which would hold three 20-round boxes of ammo total.

That's how I figure the minimum number of magazines. If I get more, then it's a multiple of that minimum.

I generally store the magazines in .50 caliber ammo boxes. Water tight and stacks neatly with all the other .50 caliber ammo boxes I have, all labeled with Brother P-Touch labels. Ammo storage by caliber, range can called "Range", Cleaning can called "Cleaning", etc.

These ammo cans are my go-to because they're cheap, water proof, stackable, and will handle all the weight of a full packed ammo loadout in any caliber...and won't collapse when stacked, either.

Simple. That's me.

emailed Hammy at 6 AM and had a reply an hour later. I misread the magnetic description - he has one version for unloaded and another for loaded with beefed up magnets. I ordered two for the outside of my safe plus a couple of wall mounted Saiga S12 holders. Looking forward to receiving them!

If everyone else did as you and I did, then poor Hammy (or his employees) are sitting around wondering what happened to suddenly increase business on Monday. And those of us that got in on Monday also ran into a 20% off on everything Christmas sale that ended at midnight!

Wow! Gotta say, I ordered several mag racks, and a trigger stop from Hammy3D late Monday (like 9:00 in the evening Monday), and I know I'm only a state away, but they were delivered today! For those who would worry about the racks for loaded mags having enough "magnetic" power to stay put, these are fantastic; more than enough to hold tight where you leave them! In fact, I let two stick together and I couldn't pull them apart without sliding them forcefully past each other.

I started loading up my slat wall today. I have a lot more to accommodate and order, but this is a start. I even put a Hammy sticker so I'd remember where I got them in 10 years.

I bought the Cabela's Plastic Ammo Boxes for each different Magazines I own. 40 S&W, AR!5, 30 Carbine, Ruger Mark II magazines, KelTec magazines. I bought 4 each 5 drawer filing cabinets from our County Surplus Sales and they were cheap, I think I paid about $10.00 each. If SHTF, I just have to grab the firearm and the ammo box and I have the ammo and magazines.

I had a problem, deciding how to store 10 of those Ruger BX25 magazine.

I went online and found a fabric shop that sells materials to reupholster high-wear seats. They list the fabric by the number of "rubs" it takes to wear through. I settled on a 40k rub, fire retardant, black faux suede fabric:

Then I hand sewed 10 pockets using this material, with the soft surface inside:

Then attached those to a sheet of this same fabric via an eyeletting tool:

Then I bought two magnets, the kind that comes with a hook, and put those on the rear surface of the safe door:

And voila, I just hang that mag holder on the door:

Each pouch is loose enough that a mag can be taken out or replaced with one hand. If I want them all, I unhook the whole thing, roll it up like a chef's knife roll and take the roll to the range. Handy 250 rounds on tap when you are doing a long suppressor testing session!
