I have three reloading manuals and am getting conflicting answers. Should I use regular or large pistol primers for my .44 loads.

Guns are a 629 6 1/2" and a SRH 7 1/2"

Bullet for now if a Winchester 240 gr JHP.

In all the load data I've seen, and in all my experiance trying to get it to ignite consistantly I'd say anything with H-110 use a magnum primer. It needs a lot heat and pressure to burn properly.

The only exception I know of is 454 Casull that uses a small rifle primer, which is already going to be on par with a magnum pistol primer for ignition anyway. No need to use magnum small rifle in the 454 Casull.

Well this probably goes against all the rules but...for my 44 mag loads in my contender and Ruger carbine I have been using W296 and large rifle primers with very good results.

I've been reloading for my SRH for, oh.....13+ years or so and I've always used CCI 350 mag primers with H110.
