Magnum Research .45 Colt? Feedback, experience?

Are they making these again, or is this an older one you're looking at? I thought all they had currently was the long cylinder 45/.410 combo gun.

I guess there's also the custom shop.

I have shot a friend's BFR in 45-70 but have no experience with the caliber you mention. The one I shot was very, VERY accurate (9 1/2" barrel). Built like a tank. Need wheels to transport.

I have a BFR in 475 which is also a short cylinder gun. It is an extremely well made gun and more acurate than I am. Its not as good as a FA but imho better made than the competition. Getting after market grips is a pain because there aren't many choices. I say get one and have a good time shooting and hunting with it. I use mine for Whitetail........a bit overkill but they dont r u n n o f t! ;)

Mine is in 460 S&W (long cylinder). It is super accurate with 460, not so much with 45 colt. I think the free bore for the much shorter cartridge kills the accuracy. Have not tried 454, no need to with 460.......

It might not be what you expected; look at the specs: 3.8 lbs. The new models are bigger than the competition or the original ones.

I've shot a custom short cylinder .500JRH Magnum Research revolver. About the same size as my FA 83's. Maybe a little beefier.

I can't find a link to the new production size. Please provide?

I think mackg is probably looking at the long frame 45/410 model. They don't have a standard length cylinder model in 45 Colt in their production lineup.

I remembered some discussions on the old Singleactions forum, and it took me a while to dig files up:

Older models (DM's) could take some ruger parts like the grip frame.

By any means it looks that these guns have been big and heavy for longer than I thought...:), JT's production started around 2000: http://www.singleactions.com/MagnumResearchBFRs.pdf
