Major virtue of a revolver

I loved that movie - "Support Your Local Sheriff!"
On the side, I did get my revolver back from Jackrabbit, who again worked miracles.

I know, for 11 paces I'm sure there are many here who could easily out do that, but I'm happy, VERY happy. Thank you, sir!

It's been mentioned in this thread already, but I find the freedom in bullet design afforded by revolvers to be fascinating. First, let me state that I carry a revolver for a lot of the reasons mentioned in this thread, but not this one, because I carry conventional round-nose hollow points. So, when I go on to describe what I'm about to, I think it should be interpreted without the context of being a recommendation for carry ammo. If we can just set aside "advice for carry ammo selection" which comes with a whole lot of baggage, and just consider ballistic performance, there are some options that revolvers offer that are mostly impractical when the cartridge has to operate out of a magazine and go up a feed ramp. I realize that there are some autos out there that will function with full wadcutters and cast lead bullets other than just round-nose, but for the most part, autos are shooting bullets that are rounded.

I like the Lehigh Xtreme Defense bullets. They've been demonstrated not to fail when fired through barriers that cause hollow points to fail to expand, and also not to penetrate as excessively as FMJ or un-expanded hollow points. While there are polymer tips to help hollow points through barriers, Xtreme Defense are a simpler solution. Now look at these XD bullets, the first a 9mm bullet designed for feed-ramps in an autoloader, and the second designed for a revolver. They are 118 gr. and 120 gr. respectively:
