Wondering who is more likely to have a shooting encounter.

I tried to do a search but can't come up with a phrase that works..help there if possible

And you'd also have to consider that ownership and carrying of guns is much higher among males than among females.

What's a "shooting encounter"? Is that gunplay, or just meeting a cute single woman at the range?

No, I think meeting a cute single woman at the range falls into the range of impossibility not encounter.:D

Now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever seen a woman (good looking or otherwise) shooting by herself. *Always* got a male counterpart in tow.

Some female shooters have written descriptions of going to a gun range by themselves and being innundated by social inept gun males who probably have never touched a woman. :D

They describe the experience as :barf: as they try to shoo away those who appoint themselves as their touchy-feely mentors.

"Here's how you should hold that gun, sweetie!"

in my CCW classes.....1/2
1 on 1 follow up class......more women than men--my guess is they really want to know that they know how to use it and that they have a bit more of a challenge than men integrating the carry into their lifestyle/wardrobe. my daughter and wife are a big help here. and thus we stay busy with referrals.
club structured events...1/4 women
free time......1/4 women--some alone, in groups or mixed groups.

FWIW 5+ years ago these numbers were less by half

In my state CHP class, about one quarter.

In my NRA Basic Pistol course, about one third. All middle-aged.

In the higher level classes and instructor courses I've taken---ZERO.

Also of note, the percentage of people under 30 years old (male and female), was DISMAL. Only my state CHP class had a noticeable number of people under 30, but not very many.

At the range I go to there are at least a couple of other women I've seen shooting by themselves. I go alone sometimes, but more often take another female friend along. We both had a suspicion that the guys who work there thought we were a couple at first. :D I don't get too many "helpful" guys, and I don't think my general demeanor invites them if I'm not intending to. Just stay focused and look busy and most of them will leave you alone. I have gotten to know some of the guys who work there though, and they're all really nice.
