I'm going camping this weekend in Oconto county. The property is also right next to Marinette county. I wanted to bring some firearms to shoot, but first I wanted to find out what the local laws are. I'm not going to be able to shoot on the property I will be staying at, it's a scouting camp, but I wanted to drive somewhere close by and take advantage of any opportunity.

Would any of you guys know the rules for discharging firearms are in these counties? There is a national forest really close by. Would I be able to shoot there? Do any of you guys know any local ranges, preferably free public ranges close by? Nearby towns are: Crivitz, Lakewood, Townsend.

To exactly give you the location of where I will be, the coordinates are: 45.283885,-88.316259
Typing that in Google maps or into a GPS will give you the exact location.

Any help is much appreciated. I don't need to go shooting this weekend, but it would be fun. :)

I shoot in a gravel pit south east of lakewood. it is near bucks ranch road and holts ranch road. I don't remember the exact road, The wisconsin gazateere has a gravel pit symbol for the pit. The pit is abandoned and located in the nicolet national forest, target shooting is not allowed in the national forest but I have never had any trouble there along with others who shoot there, It is pretty isolated and has safe backstops and target stands.

hope this helps

It seems to me that there was-is a range or gun club with a range north of Wabeno, which is just north of Townsend. The hardware store in Townsend seems to be very gun-friendly, you could stop for info there.

Kaukana, that is extremely close to where I am staying, could you be more specific about where I could find that gravel pit?

Go to http://maps.google.com and see if you can find it.

Putting this in the search bar ( 45.325237,-88.388271 ) will put you at the intersection of Bucks Ranch and Holt Ranch Roads. If you could more specifically tell me where the gravel pit is or find the coordinates, I would be much obliged.

Thanks so much for your help, it seems like I will be able to go shooting after all. :D

Picard the pit is 3/4 mile west of the intersection of holts and bucks, go west on bucks and past peeks road. it is a right turn forest road 2237 if you are going straight south toward symth road you missed the right turn for the pit. it is 200 yards down a forest service road.

hope this helps
