I figured I'd wrap up a couple of OLD threads that I started regarding the re-finish of a Marlin 1894c that I got my hands on. I tried to update the original threads but they are too old...
When I got the rifle the stock was badly scratched/gouged and the finish looked like a beat up old Mosin Nagant. The rear site was bent and rusted, the front post was also beat up and uneven.
I stripped the stock, sanded it down, stained it, then did a Tru Oil refinish which took about 6 weeks and a lot of 0000 steel wool rubbing thanks to my thick coats. I installed a Skinner rear aperture site, and ended up having to go with a Lyman 0.560" tall front sight post to get it zeroed in how I want.
I've never refinished anything before, so this was a bit intimidating, but in the end was a fun and relatively easy project.
Anyway, here are the pics.
