Expecting delevery any day now on a new Marlin 1894 in 41 mag. I've always used 170 & 210 grain bullets in my handguns and I'm sure they'll work OK in a rifle but what's the heaviest bullet I could use?
Marlin lists the FG has having a 1:20 twist rate.

Sisco,

I have had my 1894FG for about a month now and am still breaking it in.

I have shot some commercial Winchester Platinum Tip ammo through it.
They are 240 grain hollow points with the performance of 240 grain .44 magnum loads.

If you reload and shoot lead gas checked bullets, I believe you can find heavier weight bullets. Try doing a web search.

Also, Buffalo Bore and others may offer heavier weight loads.

Good luck! Hope you enjoy your new 1894FG.

I believe that the Marlin is, from the factory, regulated for the 210 gain bullet. I believe that the carbine, loaded with the 210, at, or near, maximum pressure levels, would serve you well. It also sounds asif the Wincesters would also work.

What about lead bullets? I was told by once source that the micro groove rifling and lead don't go well together.

45crittergitter: Thanks for the heads up, interesting article. I've been out of town on a family medical emergency, when I got home there was a message on my machine that the Marlin was waiting for me at the dealer.
