Hi,

I have a Marlin 336C in .35 Rem that was bought new last year that is giving me some problems, or at least I think it is a problem.

Starting with cartridges in the magazine tube and loading a round into the chamber, the next round in the tube will very often try and skip past the loading gate and press on the internals (I am assuming it is pressing on the carrier). This doesn't cause a jam, however it does make locking the action questionable. It will lock if I hold the lever shut, but when it is closed I can just lightly bump the lever and it will unlock.

-I did have to replace the loading spring's screw recently as the head torqued off during tightening.

-I was able to reproduce the "malfunction" with several brands of cases.

-I am also going under the assumption that the loading spring acts as a cartridge stop for the Marlin's action.

-The loading spring screw is tight.

Now is this just a quirk of the design or is something amiss?

Does the loading spring just need to be tuned?

Check the lever spring plunger and spring

Go here: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=0/sid=774/schematicsdetail/336 and look at part numbers 21,22,23. These are the lever plunger parts.

I had the same issue with mine, caused by the plunger spring being too weak. Replaced the spring and got rid of the problem. Your plunger may also be out of shape/rounded off. You may consider replacing that at the same time.
