Marlin Buttstock Cheek Rest

Your scope would need to be awfully high mounted I would think. My scoped Marlins do not need such a contraption. I like the cuffs but not with that huge lump on them. I have found that they tend to slip forward even when anchored though the swivel stud. I am going to have my Galco cuff sewn to have a leather loop that goes around the butt. Get the scope down low and you will not need a cheek rest which would also interfere with use of the iron sights with my setup since I can remove the scope for reversion to irons if I wish:

Brownells sells several different styles of ammo holders for stocks and also different height and style inserts for slip on cheek pieces.

Take a look around and you might find a tip off scope mount for that big bore Marlin, I have one on my 444, they work well and stay zeroed. It is a real low mount that locks in place with a large flat spring clip. mine has worked since 69. They are out of production but some folks still have them listed as new / old stock.

The one on Etsy looks too high in my opnion. A no cheek rise butt cuff with a foam strip along the top of the comb will likely be better.

Triad Stock Pack with the velcro shims is what I have for hunting or a Bradley cheek rest will work as well.

Avert your eyes if you must. You've been warned.

Here's my sweet Marlin 39AS with an improperly high set of scope rings, which required the use of questionably styled slip on cheek riser. 1" higher at the rear, 1/2" higher at the front.

It was done to compete in an internet "postal match" with gear I already had due to time constraints. If I ever scope this gun again, it will be done differently.

Yeah, that Etsy cheek riser looks too high. Unless you're using see through scope rings.

Which themselves are a solution (see through scope rings) looking for a problem (an ugly and overly sized cuff). If see through scope rings are installed they should be removed post haste and destroyed with the utmost urgency. Which then, coincidently, removes the mistaken need for a humongous cheek riser. :)

I use cheek risers on most of my rifles. Especially Marlins which have exceptionally low combs to allow the use of their iron sights. Throw a scope and rail on top, even just barely clearing the hammer spur, and you’re left with a jaw weld, not a cheek weld. Some people tolerate the poor technique of a jaw weld, not all of us do.

I rarely care for lace on risers like that any longer - too prone to tip over the top, as there’s simply not enough support to keep the pad up on top. I use screw on Victor Company Cheek risers, Hornady stock packs over homemade molded foam rubber shims (3/4” to 1 1/4”), or simple Allen cartridge sleeves over the homemade foam rubber shims to get the cheek weld I desire. I’ve made many leather buttcuffs as well, but I use an internal shim type which gives better support to avoid tipping over the stock and changing my cheek weld cast.

The strap? Yes, exactly. What is the width on the strap?

The sight line on my SBL with the Burris Scout 2.75X is at most .25 inches above the sight line for the ghost ring. Essentially, it is the same, not needing any adjustment of cheek to stock for use of either scope or sights. The scope is on quick release low Warne rings so it comes on and off in a jiffy to suit the mission. The ocular bell barely clears the rail.

Amazon has a few different options as well. I don’t really care for the shell holders as I lost some rounds one time on a walk about. If I was gonna go that way I’d get one with a zipper pouch instead of shell holders cause then you could throw a spare mag or extra bullets. Some matches and a dope card if you use one

You may loose them from those cloth/elastic ones but not likely from a leather piece, not at least the two I have. I can barely get the rounds in the holder and it near about takes pliers to get them out. Both of mine are several years old and have been used and I have yet to drop a cartridge. It does change the balance of the rifle.

I used camo gun tape and cut pieces of pvc insulation to get the perfect fit. I can completely lay into my rifle and the fit is spot on but it does have to come off to take the bolt out.

I took a piece of black foam pipe insulation, cut it and formed it to one of my composite rifle stocks, gained the inch or so that I needed. Didn't want or need ammo loops Works great. hdbiker

I make a cheek piece on my ammo cuffs. I leave the bottom open and send extra batting if you want to make it more firm. Also, you can remove the batting to make it softer. 006.JPG

How can a gun set up for proper check weld with irons NOT have a comb too low for proper use with a scope? The question isn't if the gun is still functional, its if its less than ideal.
