i have a marlin model 55 20 guage bolt action that my father gave me about 25 years ago. i have spent numerous hours looking for any info i can find but have come up empty. i found plenty about the 10 and 12 guage but not the 20. a local gunsmith told me years ago not to shoot slugs or 3 inch mags. is this true? i love the gun and it is super accurate, but i really would like to be able to shoot these shells. does anyone know for a fact that this cant be done? can a replacement slug barrel be bought for it? any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Get in touch with Marlin and they will send you a manual. I have no idea as to why you shouldn't shoot slugs in it, but to rebarrel it would be a rather expensive idea for a gun probly worth about seventy five dollars.

They were made from '50 to '65 in 26" and 28" lengths. Does it say 2-3/4" or 3" on the barrel? The only reason I can think of not to shoot slugs is because it has a full choke and probably wouldn't be accurate anyway.

no. it does not specify 2 3/4 or 3 however a 3 inch will fit the clip and gun just fine. i understand if its a full choke that a rifled slug probably would not work. but what about a sabot since they are smaller?
