A local gunshop has the Deluxe Model 60 on sale for a resonable price, and I am considering the purchase, becuse I have admired that rifle since they first were on the market. :)

The only problem is, these are probably manufactured since the merger of Remington and Marlin. "REMLINS"? Other sites are very complimentary about the 60 before the merger, but fears of lesser quality control since Remington has taken over seem to be regularly mentioned. They don't seem to offer any documention of that, tho.

So, what's a fellow to do? Just buy the new gun, and trust the manufacturer to have cntinued making a quality gun, or take the chance of finding a good used one that I can pass along to my grandkids?

Thanks

I think you will be fine with a new Model 60. Most of their issues were the Lever guns from what I gather and I believe they are even getting on the right track with them now.

I have emailed them a couple times regarding quality (not with something I had, but something I was looking at) I even discussed the merger issues etc. etc. and they said they were working on any problems they had.

Keep in mind relocating a company is a big difficult job and will of course cause a lot of problems, workforce training to be a major one! Should they have moved? No? Yes? ... Suffice to say If I were a billionaire and bought a gun company I would move it in my own back yard! Perks of being the billionaire....they will get it back to standards and maybe even better? Time will tell.

I will for sure keep buying Marlins! If you purchase the firearm, just make sure you take time to register it on the web site and fill out warranty card. I have purchased two .22 Magnum since the merger and they have no issues at all. Oh! and a .17 HMR that is just beautiful, fit and finish are exquisite on this rifle.

The Remlins will have a MM before the serial number. Personally I would just buy a cheap old 60. They made tens of millions of them and are common as dirt. A used one should be less than $100.

I have a 60 made after the merger. It's an extremely reliable rifle. The problems with rimfires generally were related to the sights not being put on correctly. The front sight in particular gets moved around to the side or even bent. If you pay attention to that you should be good to go.

I've got one of the 50th anniversary deluxe models that is a couple years old and it has been great so far.

I've got a pre-Remington 60 and a post-Remington 795. Both are excellent rifles.

Neither have had a malfunction with half-decent ammo, and both are tack drivers. The 795 might get the edge in accuracy, but I've never rested either of 'em.

I have post merger model 60, a bolt action .22 mag with the new trigger(I forget the model #) and a 336W. The rimfires are excellent, the 336W was drilled and tapped off-center. Was given a new 30-30 and with some work it is a good rifle also. I installed a Happy Trigger and polished the internals and it was good to go. The wood on the forearm is noticeably lighter in color than the buttstock but that is no big deal to me.

Check the receiver scope dovetail. There were a couple of years of production with canted dovetails. This affected both mod 60 and 795. I had one. I sent it to Marlin and they replaced it. This was an issue for a couple of years and i think it was corrected a year or so back. Sorry for the vague timing. Otherwise, i would get it, if you're happy with the price.

The post merger warranty replacement 795 i am speaking of, was a very accurate rifle and functioned flawlessly. I eventually sold it for another project.

My 1981 Glenfield mod 60 is a tack driver.

My "remlin" gets 0.7 inch average 5 shot groups at 50 yards with a 4x scope. I'm extremely happy with it.

I should have pointed out that I actually have 4 Marlins from the Remlin era and besides a couple of small issues they are all great. The only true problem I've had is light strikes in my 925. I have a 795, the 60SS, and a XT22TR besides that 925 and they are all excellent.

I bought a brand new marlin model 60 in February of this year and its possibly my favorite gun. great gun for the money no doubt

I also have a 50th anniv. DLX model, bought used but absolutely perfect shape, with a new Nikon Prostaff on it. It's stunning how pretty that rifle is! Went to sight it in first time out, and shot the center out of the target - well, so much for that! I only wish I had a place to hunt squirrels now.

I've had two Remlin 795s, both worked just fine and would out-shoot a 10/22 8 days a week.

The one I owned was decent and reliable, but I don't like semi-auto .22s so I sold it.

Most people I know who own them seem to like them, and I had no problem selling mine.

To bad you don't live near me, I'd sell you my old Marlin 60. Either from the 60s or 70s. I haven't fired it in 30 years but it's still in the safe. Between a 9422 and a Rem 77c I have no use for the Marlin.
