Mass shootings

You will be stunned to find out how many mass shooters are on anti-psychotic drugs.

Look to the head shrinkers who put these people on these drugs and pull their licenses to practice. That will go farther to solve the problem than any kind of gun legislation.

But know...... you can never point a finger at a "special class of people". Even if it is the criminally insane.

Which indicates that these people had some really serious issues before they ever got treatment.

And what about all the people helped by being put on anti-psychotic drugs????

If, and when that happens, we will likely NOT learn of it thru the pop-culture mass media...how little did we get of that idiot, who set out to harm in that Oregon mall, short while back? And how his path was turned ? (Meant to incl.quote, of another poster,here...)

Just recently in Miami was another mass shooting that most people did not hear about, of which 10 were shot and two of those died. It happened in a non-gun-free zone of an apartment courtyard area. Two gunmen opened up with 50-60 rounds or rifle ammunition (reportedly AK47 and AR15).

I have a theory as to why we very rarely raise a fuss about mass-shootings in domestic environments, even though they actually do occur quite often, between the concentration of people in a tight spot and drug/gang activity that usually takes place in homes. I think it has to do with TV viewers' ability to empathize; everyone has or knows kids that go to a public school, but no one outside the family in the domestic mass-shooting lives in that house. Therefore, it could never happen to the viewers, thus they are not scared, thus they cannot empathize, thus they lose interest rapidly. A shooting in a public arena 'could happen to anyone', hence the mall/school shooting obsession.

In the 80's/90's, it was unrelenting coverage of drive-by shootings (almost always in ghettos far away from the quality people) leading to all sorts of reactionary measures we work to dismantle to this day. I guess the media learned that tying the mass-shooting story to a specific location made the event more emotionally powerful for viewers?

Yet even the most "mentally ill" perpetrators manage to avoid places where they know they might encounter resistance.

How many schools with police sub-stations have mass shootings? None I would imagine.

That is not necessarily true. We have folks attacking police and police stations. Shooters know that they will face resistance in a few minutes and many intend to die.

The better argument is that someone who is armed and immediately present can limit the damage.

The deterrence argument is hard to make as a general one.

All of this boils down to one thing: we don't need more gun control, we need crazy people control. I don't know that a single one of these shooters was not bat spit crazy! You would have to be to do something like this. If ANY of the people in the shooters' lives would have pushed, something could have been done. And I don't believe for a second that no one saw it coming! Just look at these guys! Did no one say "Hey man, how you holding up?" Or ask them to hang out, have a beer, go with them to church? Everyone needs to take responsibility for the people around us. Care about people. Obviously I am probably speaking to the choir here but we all need to start pushing this mindset. I am convinced this happens less in small towns because everyone is in your business. It sucks having people snoop, but at the same time, people notice when something is up. Just my .02

Disgrace the shooter

We need something to dissuade those lost souls who are determined to die anyway. Put the word out that their bodies will be fed thru a wood chipper then fed to dogs and hogs. Publicize it.

And let everyone know, "If you do this, this is what will happen to you."

I am not sure they would care what happened to their bodies. There is no evidence to indicate any sort of particular concern after the fact beyond maybe Charlie Whitman who posited that something was wrong with his head and thought maybe it should be looked into afterwards.

If the kind of person perpetuating this sort of act is willing to put themselves and their remaining family through the heartache and neverending shame that will go along with such a deed I'm PRETTY sure that concern for their mortal remains is pretty low.

These people don't even care about themselves enough to go on with life as it is.

I like life and I don't even care about what happens to my remnants. Just as long as my wife doesn't turn my memory into a corny window (bumper) sticker. I will go all poltergeist her butt for that crap.
