I just purchased a Meopta. Today while I was at the range after firing my first shot out of my Rem 700 .223 I became concerned...the bullet hit the target 4 inches high. This after shooting it last weekend and it not grouping well at all. So I reached for the sight adjustment on the Bushnell and it literally came off the scope in my hand. Stunned I just put the rifle up and continued firing my other rifles. So this evening I went to Cabella's and saw the Meopta on a discontinued table. I asked about it and was told it was a very good scope. It is a Meostar R1 3-12X56. The regular price was listed as $789.99 and had it marked down to $474.88. I looked through it and was impressed with its clarity which lead to the purchase. It is a little much for my .223 but I can move another scope or two around and get it on a gun it will work on.

Now two questions...was is a good buy?

How does it compare to Leupold? Zeiss Conquest? Swarovski American and any other scopes in this range?

Thanks,

Seems like a lot of money for a 3-12. Those 56mm objectives must be expensive. I understand the reasoning behind the larger objectives but where does it end? When we can shoot in the shade because of the size of our scopes?

Hey... If your happy with the scope and it does what you expect of it then it was priced correctly. And don't let anyone tell you differently. :)

If I remember correctly the company was started by a group of engineers that left Swarovski. Should be very nice scope for the money.

I think that was a smokin' deal. I have their 1-4 K dot and its clarity amazes me every time i look through it. Holds zero, and Ive had no problems from it. I am purchasing another meopta for my PBR. I've owned a few higher end leupold's (no swarovski or ziess) and the clarity doesn't stick out in my mind as well as this scope's does. I think it holds its own.

That is a great deal, the first Zeiss Conquests were built by Meopta, not sure if they still are though. Great glass, great buy....well done!

you are .... such .... a .... sinner!!!!! As the great Chris Farley would say
from the movie Tommyboy, "....sinner..." must be done with a slight crooked smile on your face. Really, fabulous, just a fabulous deal, I bet that is below cost, Meopta is deff one would have to consider top 10 of all glass ever made on the planet as far as any scopes go. Great get.

Again, just fabulous, how good is Meopta? It would not surprise me a bit, that if some of their parts, engineering, glass, or whatever , was used in some of the worlds finest ground based observatories, it is that good.

I also have a Meostar R1 1-4 RD K-dot mounted on my FAL. They're pricey, for sure, but worth every penny, IMO. You're gonna really like that scope!

Meopta

I have a Schmidt & Bender 3x12 scope on a hunting rifle, a Nightforce NSX 5x22 on my varmint rifle, a Leupold 1,75X6 on my .375, a Bushnell Elite 4.5x30 on a 7MM Caribou gun, and I can tell you that I am very impressed with the Meopta. Outstanding clarity and close to zero tunnel vision. Perfect for night hunting feral hogs...

Another high quality Czech product

I have a pair of their Binoculars and they are excellent. I am going to get a fixed power scope soon.

Thanks all, I just put it on my 300 mag and am going to the range to sight it in tomorrow. Took it to Houston this week and let a buddy, who had never heard of them either, look at it and out of it. He was really impressed. We stood outside for over an hour while the sun set and he and I were both talking about the clarity of the scope and the fact you could actually see and shoot at something with it well past legal hunting time. I am very please with the purchase. :D
