NEW YORK — Filmmaker Michael Moore's (search) bodyguard was arrested for carrying an unlicensed weapon in New York's JFK airport Wednesday night.

Police took Patrick Burke, who says Moore employs him, into custody after he declared he was carrying a firearm at a ticket counter. Burke is licensed to carry a firearm in Florida and California, but not in New York. Burke was taken to Queens central booking and could potentially be charged with a felony for the incident.

Moore's 2003 Oscar-winning film "Bowling for Columbine" criticizes what Moore calls America's "culture of fear" and its obsession with guns.

No big shock that Moore is a hypocrite just like Rosie O'Donnel and the rest of the leftist fringe extremists in the gun confiscation movement.

Gun confiscation hypocrites with armed security details.

According to the article Patrick Burke "claimed he was carrying a firearm at the ticket counter" By the sound of that it makes me think he had it concealed. While that would take a special kind of stupid to walk in JFK with a loaded gun I don't know that I would be terrible suprised since he works for Moore.

Heard that kind of stuff before. Seems like it's the " OK for me, but not for you" syndrome.

I agree. It seems Michael Moore doesn't really believe what he preaches.

Why does MM need a bodyguard??? I thought he was a beloved man of the people......a truth seeker who exposed exploitation and manipulation by the rich and powerful.  :p :D

Hey guys,

Had something similar happen to me this Christmas. Going out to Indiana to be with my lady's parents. Had all my paperwork had been given the OK by the airport. Even at the ticket counter,, they saw that it was locked up, ammo seperate blah, blah. All fine, right? Well when the port authority police came over, they said I was in NYC territory and my NJ license didn't count, but I was saying to them that I was in transit, and legal since I had just come from NJ and was going out to a state that doesn't give a fig about stupid gun laws. They gave me a hard time and did an extensive background check. One cop was nice and was pulling for me. I barely caught the flight and had to watch my girl cry....

-As for MM, I never got the impression after watching his movie, that he's anti-gun. The opposite. He's saying DESPITE the fact that we have a whole bunch of guns and Canada has even more, there''s a violence and lawlessness that has ZERO to do with those guns, or video games, or bad music. Thus the comparision between us and Canada, since they are very similar to us and have a whole bunch of huns too.

-It was a social statement, not an anti-gun one. I've used that movie sooooo many times against anti-gunners who think that movie champions their cause but actually destroys the foundation of their argument: that guns are bad....

I think it's clear that MM requires protection, who could doubt this. Half the country spew venemous hatred when asked about him, c'mon that's reason for more than 1 BG.

In the scheme of things this is petty, Pdiddy makes this look mild. It's likely that police departments have a standing order to cut the fat guy zero slack. In fact, you have to admit it is rather impressive that no attempts have been made upon him yet? Just as the new CIA director is appointed he is on Leno with footage of the same guy talking about how he would be unable to work in the CIA today, not qualified, can't use a computer, while MM was in the next room feeding the interviewer questions... Leno even asked "How are you still alive?"

No matter what, Burke did the right thing by being honest, if he had been caught trying to sneak a pistol around then this would be an entirely different issue.

paco, moore is absolutely anti-gun. his stand on the issue is made clear in the statements he has made in talk show interviews.

i'm too lazy at the moment to try and find transcipts of them, but its not accurate to use BFC as evidence that he is not anti-gun.

Spaceman,

It's not that I see BFC as the paragon of gun support, but the ENTIRE premise of the movie is a very sound argument to not pointing to and demonizing what essentially are lifeless, genderless, amoral, simple tools. Yes, we're screwed up as a people and yes, guns can make it easier for someone to kill another but then there are examples i.e., Canada, that does away with that BS.

-Trust me folks, that poster child can be used to as a very effective crowbar to squeeze some reason into an otherwise emotional viewpoint, for the very reason that anti-gunners think it's their champ (BFC). It's irrelivant if the moviemaker's motivating factor was for or against guns; the facts speak for themselves.

-I also think that's why he starts with saying he's a life member of the NRA and has been shooting his whole life. Again, it's a social commentary, not a witchhunt on guns (or at least one should spin it that way, since it lends itself to be used that way)

It's a witch-hunt, no question about it. But you have to watch the film carefully. It's not a documentary, it's agitprop. So you have to look beyond Moore's words to what he's actually doing. Some examples:

--The cartoon history showing the NRA assisting the KKK, and implying a connection between the two organizations.

--The decision to interview Nichols, and the efforts made to paint him as an insane "gun nut."

--The repeated emphasis on gun violence, and the use of emotionally charged footage with fast edits to whip his audience into an anti-gun frenzy.

--Moore's blatant attempts to blame K-Mart for Columbine, including "returning" the bullets. Then declaring "victory" when K-Mart agreed to his demands.

--Moore's use of clever edits, tricks, and re-shoots to paint Heston has a racist, violent old man who scoffs at the deaths of little girls.

I could go on and on. Trust me. BFC is ANTI-GUN, just like Moore.

Just like Rosy O'Dumbell (another slob). "I won't touch a nasty evil gun, and neither should you! OTOH, my bodyguard NEEDS a gun, to protect me from the evil rednecks!"

Anybody click the link above, and notice that the bodyguard looks like moore's twin brother. :barf:
Another bloated swine that also seems to go to yassar arafat's barber for shaves. He must have the attachment for "leave 3 days growth" that attaches to the clippers.

After reading the correction to the Moore bodyguard story. I have a couple of questions. The body guard informed the Port Authority officer, that he had an unloaded firearm in his baggage, as the law requires. Stil the Port Authority officer arrested him and charged him???

As I may attend the IPSC world shoot in Ecuador in August this year, it may be that the cheapest airfare will be with transit trough New York from Norway.
Can I risk beeing arrestet there then??
Scary...

My understanding is that yes, indeed, the fellow was arrested by the Port Authority for violations of New York's draconian gun laws. I would advise anyone traveling with any firearm to avoid New York at all costs. In fact, avoid the northeastern US completely. Go through Atlanta or Dallas where all you have to worry about are TSA restrictions.

Every law-abiding American citizen ought to be able to keep and bear arms anywhere, any time, for any reason or no reason at all.

That saidâ„¢, it's hilarious to see yet another leftist extremist caught with his "protection for me, but not for thee" trousers around his ankles.
