Hkmp5sd, it wasn't a lot of fun...

And several E-bay auctions later, I wound up with 2 of them. That's the substitute-standard 7/8" Lyman Alaskan/M73 version with post reticle, I'd looked through a 3/4" Weaver 330C/M73B1 and was never really impressed. The Weaver 330C reminded me of those cheap 3/4" Tasco rimfire and pellet rifle scopes we all had as kids. You'll see field pictures of 1903A4's, post WWII, wearing M84 scopes, as well as early Vietnam versions wearing Weaver K4-60 scopes. The gun is quite formidable with optics, even with the lowly 2.5x Lyman it's quite a shooter. Since it's a restoration and not a documented complete original, I don't feel bad about taking it out on weekends. I took it back to Wisconsin last fall for whitetail season!

I'm thinking about using the spare Lyman scope with either a vintage Stith side mount for my Remington Model 81 restoration project, or putting it on my Siamese Mauser .45-70 project. They were nice old scopes, Leupold even made them for a while after Lyman closed down.

DMK, thanks for the complement!

I really wish I had the skills of Oleg and others here on the forum, I'm doing the guns a disservice with the pictures I take at home. I'm certain a photo pro would make them really stand out, much better than my attempts. :(

Three Persian contract, BRNO (Czech) produced, Model 1898/29 Mausers. These are sub-MOA accurate with 6 cents/round Turk 8mm ammo. Very well-crafted rifles.

I'm not sure what this is. My grandfather found crates of them while working on an old house. It has the following on it:

On the butt where the quark from the barrel is, it has:

AOUT S.W. 1873 J.

on the barrel is has:
S. 1873

on the other side is has:
Manufacture D Armes MLE 1866

If anyone has any other info on this gun or knows where I could purchase authentic accessories to go with it, please contact me. Thank you.

-Mike
