Does anyone know what year they stopped producing these rifles with the pencil thin barrels? I remember reading something about the serial numbers but I can't recall for the life of me what it was

I think some of the 590s still had pencil barrels, as far as I know all the 591+ are tappered....year wise I'm not positive I bought my 591 in 2010 but they had been doing it for a while by then.

It's not the 590's since that serise number Mini 14 does not exist.

Thanks Kame, didn't even realize I typed 590....guess I had Mossberg on the brain or something.

kame is right on, thin barrels to about 580-50xx, 2005, then the heavier barrels.
