Hey pals. From time to time I've seen Mini-14s in .17 Remington. As far as I know, and correct me if I'm wrong, Ruger never offered a factor carbine in said. Out of historical curiosity, who was behind these conversions? How do they run?

Thanks!

That is interesting- the only "odd ball" caliber I am aware of is .222 Remington for countries where military chambered weapons are verboten for civilians.

I built a 17 Remington AR a number of years ago. Interesting cartridge and rifle. If someone makes custom Mini-14 barrels, the conversion should not be difficult as pretty much only the barrel is needed.

Accuracy systems did such conversions. They do good work, but you end up with a $2,000 mini by the time you're done that won't really shoot any better than an $800 AR.

Biggest problem with .17 Rem in an autoloader is the tiny, thin-jacketed bullets sticking way out of a long, skinny case neck. It doesn't take much to deform them, and smashing the bullet nose into the feed ramp is a surefire way to do it.

I love my Rem 700 LVSF in .17 rem, but I wouldn't want an autoloader so chambered.
