I'm friends with an asian woman at work. She's never had any exposure to guns before. Since I'm the office's most avid gun nut, she's overheard people talking about going shooting with me, and I expressed the view that if you really wanted to have an honest understanding of guns and gun owners she should come shooting with us some time. Originally, she and her husband were going to come, but he had to work and her daughter came with her instead. Lets call them Jack, Jill, and Jane.

I showed Jane and Jill basic gun safety, how to load and unload my guns, then set up some kinetic targets (steel plates and such) for them to shoot at. It was a pleasant sunny day, and there were a couple of other families at the range, including some little kids. Good atmosphere for nubies!

They were both having lots of fun and had big smiles on their faces, especially the daughter who's your typical antisocial teenage girl. We took a bunch of pictures of her shooting everything, including a 44 magnum, and I commented on how she was going to piss off all the boys at her school! She beamed!

Later, when we got back to her home, the wife Jane told her husband how much fun she had and that they needed to go buy a gun of their own. The husband Jack just stared at me for a second and then said "Previously, Jane told me we should never keep a gun in this house!". I really felt a stuck a blow against gun control at that moment, when someone that was against guns became a convert. All in all a good day!

You had a great day. Nice Work. I always encourage people to learn to look out for themselves and it often begins with getting them into recreational shooting. I can be a fun family activity in addition to teaching them useful skills.

I'm recently divorced, and I am planning on making a range trip out of most of my dates with new women.

Even if things don't work out with a particular woman, I'll still be exposing people to guns.

It will also allow me to vet any "undesirable" partners. Needless to say, their reaction to the range trip will be a deciding factor in whether I continue in that relationship.

hahaha, my thoughts exactly, lol, do you play Combat arms, the game? Or is that something else?

And for original post: Good job, keep it up

MichaelK kudos on your success with Jane & Jill.

Couldn't agree more. It's hard to raise your kids right with a woman that doesn't like guns.

Glad your outing was a success. Now maybe they might do the same for someone else.
If not, at least now they have a different attitude.

What you really want is a woman that replies with... "First, send photos of guns."

:D

A good friend of mine ALWAYS took his dates rabbit shooting. Not only did this weed out the anti-gun &/or anti-hunting girls it also, perhaps more importantly, exposed those who had a greater than desireable blood-lust!

This is the best way to effect change - at the most basic level, one person at a time.

You did a good job for all of us.

You now need to get her husband to the range so he can try guns and get one of his own.

You’ll also have to convince him that he has to have a 4WD pickup truck.

Funny thing is, before I took them out, I casually commented to Jack, the husband, "Don't worry, I'm not trying to change your wife into a "Gun tote'n Biker Momma"". Then, while at the range, another one of the guys invited to join us that day showed up riding his Harley. Oh-uh!

I cast for all my handgun calibers and I mentioned how cheaply I can reload ammo compared to store bought. The wife Jane commented on how she would go to her local tire garage now to ask them for their recycled wheelweights. Then she got down and diligently picked up all my fired brass. It just got better and better as the day went by.
