I have a bubba'd Mk3 that I found for a decent deal, IMO...and I would like to mount a scope on it. I cannot use the ATI scope mount due to certain issues. I was wondering if there was a cantilever style mount seen on some Mosin Nagants and other rifles that can work on this rifle? I don't mind drilling/tapping...in fact I would prefer to do this...but I have no way to D/T in more than one location (the reciever ring area...no other area is available...)...anyone have ideas?

Advanced Technology scope mount

I was reluctant to drill and tap my Enfield No. 1 Mark III* so I opted to try the AT mount. When I first installed it I noticed the front started to rise after about 20 rounds. I had to retighten it and still it did not stay in place.

I contacted AT and asked them to send a set of longer set screws; the kit normally comes with one half-inch set screw for the front and two quarter-inch for the rear. They push against each other to secure the mount in the receiver. I just couldn't get a good bite with the Allan wrench on the shorter screws.

I replaced the rear screws with the longer ones and used some red Locktite to secure them. I also had to shim the rear of the mount to raise it about a thirty-second of an inch to allow the proper alignment for the scope. I couldn't adjust the settings on the scope enough to center a bore sight.

I haven't tested it yet but when I do I'll post the results.

I tried a couple of "no gunsmithing" mounts on my No. 4 Enfield. Wanna buy one???

Mine was already "bubba-ized" (actually, it was nicely sporterized by some previous owner; the barrel cut to 22" & re-crowned, a Parker-Hale ramp front sight, and a sporter stock). I finally coughed up the fee for my local smith to drill & tap the receiver for a one-pice mount. That ol' 1943-vintage warhorse has collected two nice deer with two rounds, and hopefully this month . . .

Thanks for the repsonses, guys.

I believe I will go ahead and take it to the 'smith as he has a jig to lock it down for the D/T treatment.

As soon as it happens I will try to get some pics posted for all to peruse.

I had a chance to test the Advance Technology mount on my Enfield and with the modifications I made it seemed to have held quite well. I fired about 40 rounds and kept the all of the shots in the center ring of a nine inch paper plate at 100 yards, some of the groupings were less than three inches.

Finally, I checked the space between the mount and the rear portion of the receiver with a pair of dial calipers, where I had installed a shim, and it hadn't moved at all.

I think I'll stick with the mount and if there are any changes I'll post them.

Before you do anything check the headspace. There's no point spending any money on a scope mount if the headspace is bad.
