OK, for those who followed my posts, I built a very nice looking and accurate longrifle, so I've started competing with it, MLAIC event n° 36, pennsylvania, with fairly good results. And here's the issue, during the last competition, an other competitor came with a rifle fitted with a peep tang sight and a globe front sight. Apart from the flint lock itself, this rifle looked as if it was fully "Vetterli" capable. Although the peep sight is as old as missile weapons existed, so I guess its Ok to fit one on a flintlock, I'm still wondering if the globe front sight is acceptable for a flintlock area rifle, as following MLAIC rules, the sights fitted on a flintlock should have been designed before 1850 (bonus question, shouldn't the peep sight respect that rule too ?).

peeps

I have never seen globe sight on the front of a peroiod rifle or pistol (pre 1830) . Yes they did have peeps as rear sights. I have seen them a few times on older weapons, usually not american though.

Sorry for jumping into an old thread, but I shot MLAIC & used a flint rifle for the Maximilian(R) match which had a lollipop aperture rear sight & a tunnel front. My recollection of the rules, regarding front sights on flinters, was that they couldn't have interchangeable inserts. Mine just had a fixed post, but was enclosed within a tunnel.
