I've been shooting registered benchrest competition for upwards of 40 years and back in those earlier days lots of shooters were shooting rifles based around Remington M-722 actions in .222 Rem caliber, the prevailing BR caliber at the time. Then Remington's 40-X BR rifles had a sort period of popular success. But Remington actions (M-700 or otherwise) are no longer a factor in the accuracy game, I haven't seen one on the line in past 20 years or more. But for the record, I still have this once successful benchrest competition rifle built by Shilen around a sleeved Rem 40-X action, which I've kept mainly as an artifact from times long past...Back when I was into bench rest shooting, the class' that were for hunting rifles, Remington 700's won 99+ % of the matches, match after match....
